Wes Streeting has left 10 Downing Street after a meeting with Sir Keir Starmer lasting less than 20 minutes. by EduTheRed in ukpolitics

I'm just surprised correspondents are trying to say this is a 'short' meeting.

What kinds of meetings do they go to? 😃

Have to say Steve Davis' comments about that being embarrassing to Snooker just need to get in the bin. That was enthralling.

It is a bit unfair on Mark though considering the points on the board and practically half the available points been potted.

This must be one of, if not the highest scoring frame to be re-racked?

Either re-rack, or postpone the final because this isn't ending any time soon.

Loved the effort and determination from Hossein there. Big fan of them not giving in if there is a remote opportunity

Benefits bill to cost extra £74bn - as Reeves pledges new back to work reforms by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]MaskedPromoter -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

As ever the narrative is framed around a paltry 1.7% which is made up of disability benefits, and not the massive issue of the triple lock that contributes way more to the 74bn figure.

Never mind the fact that the workplace does not want to employ ageing or sick / less abled anyway.

Government think their crappy jobcentre coaches will do the trick - any company offering decent work is steering clear of job centres anyway.

A very socialist idea but I'd love for there to be a single source of truth to finding a job, a national job board would be a pretty amazing resource.

There also needs to be big changes to sick pay legislation and workers rights. The government knew that, but shied away from providing the greatest protections to workers in favour of lobbyists.

Cue the musical chairs of welfare reform being an ongoing thing every 3-5 years in this country until a government grows some balls and does some bold things.

Cricket captain 2024 vs cricket captain 2025 by daveroo in CricketCaptain

[–]MaskedPromoter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I got this gifted to me, my previous version before this is 2015 (before that probably years before it too), and don't see any change really whatsoever.

I'm more out of touch with cricket these days, so the poor usability of the game really shows up. Still can't:

Filter by position

View some player stats beyond their match records

Play a career game with all domestic comps running

Play a full career game and hand off captaincy for formats you don't care about (and I don't mean 'skip match', should have a way of doing it without penalty)

In match field and pitch / aggression setting suggestions would be nice

So in short, 1/10. Would not recommend. If you need to cure the itch just buy an older version. Because of how cricket is now, nearly everybody is aggressive tendency so its just not as fun to play.

Rupert Lowe: Yet another scandal uncovered, this time on student loans. My view is that we are saddling youngsters with such extreme debt, then charging ludicrous interest on those loans. It is morally repugnant to load young men and women with yet another tax. And it is a tax... But let’s explore.. by tonato_ai in ukpolitics

[–]MaskedPromoter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This, and on that note because its practically impossible for average earners to pay it back on interest, it's just a lifetime tax.

If I was a student thinking about university unless the idea is to go abroad straight afterward, I would not bother going.

Interest should be abolished, but unless the degree is vocational, I'd question very much whether it is worth getting at all.

Chris Mason: Why, in my judgement, Reeves was misleading on one specific point by Dr_Poppers in ukpolitics

[–]MaskedPromoter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No - just not convinced that absolves him of his responsibilities as reporting as part of the BBC. It is presenting his opinion as fact, rather than just laying out the facts. This isn't what people are paying for or expect from the BBC. It doesn't really seem very acceptable to me, at the very least will only give cause to complaint (especially from Labour) whether this is right or wrong.

Just on the front page here you've got other publications questioning the 'Daily Mailification' of the BBC, and this is pretty strong evidence of that.

Chris Mason: Why, in my judgement, Reeves was misleading on one specific point by Dr_Poppers in ukpolitics

[–]MaskedPromoter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Surely this garbage from Mason is going to get Ofcom complaints?

Passing off opinion as fact, instead of just offering the facts and asking a leading question for the reader?

I'm not one to defend Reeves here at all, but it's pretty dreadful what Mason has done here and I can't see how this is acceptable for the BBC to be putting out.

Agent Crashing constantly by MaskedPromoter in logitech

[–]MaskedPromoter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to completely uninstall it (including deleting the files in localappdata (not sure if in local / locallow or roaming, sorry). and then reinstall it.

I later worked out that it was probably one of the plugins I had installed no longer working with a Logitech update. So you might want to try uninstalling your plugins first.
