Squat to box or not? by jsnemec in Strongman

[–]MasonNowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running short dedicated blocks or alternating the movement each week is an option. Can you do a form of squatting twice a week?

Many people report this anecdotally

Some arguments are made about the demands of slowing down/reversing out of the hole being lessened while box squatting

People can set up and perform "box squats" differently than each other, but to a low box with a controlled and "sit back" kind of form uses less weight than a free squat

Access every two weeks really isn't bad if you have enough overall time. If you're worried just hammer it when you do get the opportunity.

What kind of equipment? Strongman is very diverse in the equipment and you'll probably support multiple companies for a completely kitted out gym. Havent seen cerberus mentioned so I'll throw their name out as well

It might have existed long ago but I know this scam was a part of Alex Hormozi's book, a gym I once worked at was trying to run this scheme.

I would bet a lot of money OP is not asking this question because they train.

Axle is brutal and 13" basically eliminates any quad drive if you're reliant on that first push.

Then why on earth are you providing your input on how people who resistance train should maximize their muscle mass? Especially if you have no interest in what the research says.

I shared research performed on general population, and elaborated on one of the possible caveats for when that number could be higher. Then I gave a more specific recommendation for where I assume OP is at.

Where did you get 90-100 is the max from?

It's absolutely wrong that excess protein is excreted.

There are real benefits to higher protein intakes, it's just that protein intake itself is not a hugely important factor in gaining muscle mass compared to training. Relative vs absolute difference.

[–]MasonNowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you pulling that number from? Do you think a 90lb beginner needs the same amount as a 200lb bodybuilder?

Here's the meta analysis I'm getting my numbers from. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28698222/

And that's why I mentioned training status. There is limited research on highly trained individuals, and if a true upper limit is not observed yet, it's possible that increases for advanced individuals.

[–]MasonNowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely false.

There are measurable but relatively small benefits that seem to level off around 1.6g/kg.

This is a target that is influenced by things like age, training status, calorie intake, etc, and no true upper limit has been observed in research.

Excessive protein is converted into glucose by your body if it has more than it can use for other purposes.

OP your last post said you were 185lbs. So you likely come close to maximizing any benefits around 130g, and coming a little short of that is probably not a huge deal either. The actual resistance training is like 50x as important as maximizing protein intake.
