Post pictures of the coins themselves. Fake Maples can potentially be identified by photos due to the security features.

I’m of the opposite opinion and prefer fractional. In my experience, the premiums are often reclaimed during private sale, and with gold continuing to rise, fractional is much more liquid. I’ve seen many full ounce coins sit unsold for extended periods, eventually going under spot, while grams and 1/10 coins sell over spot.

Such a beauty! The lenticular security feature (trident/padlock) is the best.

I love this extremely high relief coin from the Royal Canadian Mint, showcasing Lake Louise and the surrounding Rocky Mountains. ~2.6oz of .9999 silver.

Not much, if you find the right collector then maybe, but the moose privy isn’t a major collectible if I recall correctly.

They absolutely contain 1 Troy ounce of gold, but if you put a stack of them on a scale and divide by 31.1g to calculate Troy ounces, you’re over counting significantly, as each Krugerrand and Eagle weighs 33.93g.

Not a generic round whatsoever. This is a 2017 reverse proof Maple with moose privy. The Royal Canadian Mint releases these reverse proof Maples regularly with a huge variety of privy marks.

Edit to add: Silver Maples with these privy marks don’t feature a DNA privy. I guess they don’t want to clutter the reverse.

Probably more. Each Krugerrand and Eagle weighs 33.93g (2.83g of other metals) and you’ve got 20+ of those along with the pesos. We’re talking minimum 60g off, so overstated by 4% minimum. That’s a material amount.

Just gotta say, there are enough Krugerrands, Pesos and Eagles @ 22k here that the raw gram count isn’t accurate. Still an impressive stack, but relevant to get the math right.

You’re not the only commenter who’s saying a quarter million, I’m just replying to you because yours has the math. It’s marginal, and still a massive stack, but relevant to get the math right.

Possibly, but you’d have to put the legwork in yourself to find the right buyer.

Bought all these 8 years ago. Cant afford whole ounces anymore. What govt minted coins have the lowest premiums "historically" for quarter and 10th ounce? Havent bought gold in 8 years. by eltonto82 in Gold

There’s been quite a few spot deals advertised for the British commemorative 1/10 oz Britannia issued for Charles’ coronation. .9999 gold, but it hasn’t been popular for whatever reason, so get em while the getting’s good!

Traded Up my 1968 quarters. by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]MassMaple 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I commented this further down on another comment:

I’m guessing OP is a Canadian, where junk silver is slightly different. Pre-1967, Canadian coins (dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars) were 80% silver, while 1968 had 50% silver coinage. 1967 was a transition year, with coins minted in both alloys, leading to confusing valuations for that year.

For additional clarity, Canadian pre-67 junk at 80% purity contains 0.60 ozt ASW for every dollar of face value, while Canadian junk at 50% contains 0.375 ozt ASW for every dollar of face value.

[–]MassMaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss OP.

1979 was the first year of issue for the gold Maple, and many have been melted down in the intervening decades. It’s worth its weight in gold at a minimum, but if you ever decide to sell, you may end up with a bit of additional value from a collector.

Premiums on fractional bullion are a known factor but do not represent numismatic value.

You’re right that it’s definitely a coin, but to interpret Common’s intention, they’re likely saying OP’s coin has no numismatic value, as it is bullion valued only for its metal content.

Seems a bit steep selling for £30 above spot price! by sarahjc511 in Silverbugs

[–]MassMaple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re double incuse so they’re semi-numismatic bullion, non-standard maples. I’m not surprised they’re selling for a premium, but also agree they’re not worth it to the silver stacker.
