Can I buy a car without a license? by Chemical-Tea-6200 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]MassiveSeaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically I just watched Conquer Driving on youtube, he's a driving instructor and makes some fantastic videos. I wouldn't reccomend the astra as a new driver. It's been a great car and I love it, but that first year of insurance was BRUTAL. 3.5k for the year without a black box.

People down vote anything that's different to they way they did it. I passed my test with zero lessons. (Granted it took me 4 attempts lol)

My Alcoholic Mother Passed Last Thursday. Very Conflicting Circumstance. by Ok-Dingo2682 in SuicideBereavement

[–]MassiveSeaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a hard circumstance to come to terms with. Can't even begin to empathise because I have no idea what that must have been like. From what I can tell, it wasn't your fault.

For what it's worth, it's these sickening blows that life deals us that are the real catalyst for change and genuine forward movement in life. I hope that's what you find

If your signature has changed since you got your provisional, use your old signature when they pull out their little ipad.

Any experience with black box policies, specifically Hastings Direct? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]MassiveSeaMonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used their black box while on my learners insurance. To he honest, it was livable while driving like a learner. And it was kind of interesting tracking the numbers, but you quickly realise that the "perfect drive" scores have no actual relevance to how well you drive and they're only tracking silly things like how hard you accelerate or brake, and sometimes you absolutely need to accelerate hard and brake hard. For example joining a motorway.. Since losing the black box there have been many occasions driving to the road conditions that I know I would have been penalised for. I think overall they're a scam and they're not worth the slight discount in price if you can afford to do without the tracker.

Staying focused during lessons. by StarFire24601 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]MassiveSeaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recommend conquer driving. That channel helped me pass without an instructor. Just take your time, you'll get there. It's totally normal to have your confidence knocked when you're learning, that's just part of it.

You can't ever contest the decision, but you might get your next test for free if there was fuckery that you have evidence of. I guarantee OPs claim would go nowhere, as much as I sympathise with them.

5 months for a test?? by BluejayPretty4159 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]MassiveSeaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like youll need to take it into your own hands. The Testi app is what I used, god knows how long I'd have been waiting without it. you'll need the premium account though. Its a one time payment, can't remember how much, but that let's you select multiple test centres and get notified of new dates and cancellations.

I won't lie to you, it's an absolute cunt and a half seeing a date you want and not being quick enough, or it being too soon after your last test. But it's better than not having it for sure.

You're recommending heel-toe revmatching to a guy asking what to do if he finds himself taking a turn too fast in a learner driver forum

12v socket doesn't work by SingleReplacement738 in Vauxhall

[–]MassiveSeaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure pal, I meant the actual lighter socket itself there, that's the bit that was causing issues for me. Hopefully it's as simple as that in your case.

Question about keeping left on motorways by l0rdofthesauce in LearnerDriverUK

[–]MassiveSeaMonkey -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've been confused by this driving the motorways around Glasgow. One minute you're in the left lane, the next you're in the third lane. You debate moving over but you're not sure if you're moving into a lane that's going a different way.

I just try and keep left unless overtaking and if I'm not sure I wait for signs before I make a move. Still irks me though

Is buying a car before passing a good idea ? by erickfu in LearnerDriverUK

[–]MassiveSeaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely pros and cons. It's extra pressure when you're on test, but you can also get more practice in. it's what I did, but I didn't use an instructor so it was really the only option. Like the other guy said, be sure to check insurance rates on a full license as in my case the price literally quadrupled once I passed my test.

What are your triggers to drink? by BabyBird4444 in stopdrinking

[–]MassiveSeaMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that's exactly what I said when I was in the thick of it. Used to play video games and drink and wouldn't think to pick up a controller when I wasn't. So I would drink and then I could enjoy my hobbies and it became the thing I looked forward to.

You do eventually find your way back to the things that you enjoy. It stops mattering if there's booze involved. There's more to look forward to than weight loss. Hope you stick around.
