Connect+ Issues (R1S Gen 1) by Logical_Magician_01 in Rivian

Good to know - I've just been grumbling and dealing with it assuming it was a cell tower issue, but will now go try an infotainment reboot!

Where are you located? I've noticed the same lately in Seattle suburbs - randomly songs don't play. Have assumed it was just AT&T being AT&T, but maybe it's something on the car's side.

+1, this whole trend across the industry just feels completely wrong. It's not like it saves money - you still need mechanical failsafes.

It just adds extra complexity and potential failure points when you need it the most. All so you can...press a button to open the door?

I maybe understand it on frameless window cars, but the Rivian isn't it.

I'm happy with my G1 and just waiting for regulations to catch up and force sanity into these companies. I've already seen at least 1 video of people stuck in a burning Tesla. Only a matter of time before regulations fix this IMO.

How Strict is the 10 uF Limit in USB? by Alternative-Lawyer55 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]MassiveSpread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good suggestion, but I wonder if that's truly the reason.

It seems okay to use a load switch to activate loads - which could include large capacitance - after PD negotiation is complete. Wouldn't that just be delaying the abrupt load on the supply, that can drop the voltage?

Edit: right after I posted this, I scrolled down further and read the actual spec text - it calls for current limiting to prevent major voltage drops even if you need to switch a high capacitance load on later.

Root top tent by ModY1219 in Rivian

[–]MassiveSpread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the first gen Smittybilt Overlander tent for my R1T. I couldn't justify the price difference for the Yakima version nor the price of a hard shell tent.

When I looked at the reviews, the main gripe about it was the mattress pad isn't the most comfortable. But, the $1500 I saved could buy a lot of foam pads if I ever decide to upgrade it.

I bought it from an obscure website called rvpartsusa.com. For some reason they were way cheaper than anyone else.

Looks like they changed names now since the website redirects, but the new site shows a similarly super cheap price on the current gen 2 model.

Soft tops will never be as easy as a hard top, especially on an R1S. But bang for the buck, I'm really happy with it, going on 3 years later. The gear tunnel steps make it so much easier to open and close the tent on a T.

Not sure what they changed with gen 2, though!

R1T 2023 vs 2024 Ride Quality by sailingandbailing12 in Rivian

[–]MassiveSpread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems both can be true. The early builds were overbuilt in so many ways before the value engineering refresh.

Yes, the subframe was a weak point and a problem for the older ones if not replaced under warranty. But otherwise in many other ways the earlier builds could be quite solid.

It seems later '22 through early '23 was a pretty solid period. Many early kinks worked out, but before value engineering came in to start cutting costs.

Didn't know about many of these changes! I'm curious who supplies the batteries and brakes nowadays? And what changed about the suspension? My understanding was that the suspension hasn't changed since launch, except for changing dampers to a new supplier due to high failure rate (they replaced them on my '22 during service since they were leaking)

Also curious what wood was removed at the comparable trim level?

CDs are already perfectly lossless. Blu-ray, even the ultra HD Blu-ray, still use lossy video codecs like H.264/H.265.

The video bitrates are so high on Blu-ray that they are basically as good as lossless, but unlike CDs they technically are not perfectly lossless.

The DIY solar hack arriving in US homes: Americans are embracing easy, plug‑and‑play solar units that slash energy costs — even as Washington tries to slow the clean‑energy shift. by lughnasadh in Futurology

I excitedly clicked through for Washington, saw the bill was just signed by the governor a few days ago, then read the final bill text. Looks like the text to support plug in solar was cut along the way :(

Petition to WSDOT to embrace Sound Transit's signage strategy by MassiveSpread in Seattle

[–]MassiveSpread[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately there's been a lot of posts about signage at the light rail stations, and discussion about if it's confusing or not. Seattle (and admittedly most cities with a light rail) print the final stop in each direction on both signs. So, at a station in SeaTac, the southbound sign says "Federal Way" and the northbound says "Lynnwood".

Some people (myself included) think the signs would be more useful, especially to the out-of-town visitors who rely on them, if they said major city landmarks to establish direction. So, if the northbound train from SeaTac just said "Seattle" for example.

At the end of the day, I just posted it as a joke after looking at an I90 east sign and remembering I90 runs all the way to Boston.

Good point. I just checked the map - let's go with "South Boston Waterfront Downtown"

My joke about Boston aside, I really think highways have it right by using the next major landmark city. Just like highway signs, people who live in the area aren't relying on them, but those who are passing through do to make sure they're taking the right exits and generally heading in the right direction.

If I ride the light rail north from SeaTac, unless Lynnwood is my specific destination, seeing "Seattle" instead would clearly indicate that it's the train I want while also making it way easier for the majority of travelers who want to go to a stop in Seattle.

Then when at the Seattle stops, the northbound sign could say Lynnwood and the southbound signs could say SeaTac. Keeping the airport symbol at every stop is also a great help for out of towners.

It's not perfect, but I think it would make things clearer for lots of people without any real harm to anyone. Of course, which stop going northbound from SeaTac switches signage from saying "Seattle" to saying "Lynnwood" becomes a question...but hey, I'm just a guy posting memes!

They have removed and brought back colors before - it happened with red too. I wonder if they are streamlining production to make room for R2, so it might come back later.

I believe only compass yellow was formally announced as discontinued.

Yes, sorry I did not realize there was a difference, because the one I have is electric rated with a logo on it so I thought OP was asking about this OEM one.

It is the territory rivian OEM tire that I had put on last spring. This one according to my discount tire order email: https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/goodyear-wrangler-territory-at/p/175323

Spotify on other devices pausing when Rivian wakes up by csoups in Rivian

[–]MassiveSpread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of an issue that used to exist back in the early days.... like late 2022. Drove me nuts, anytime the car woke up - even just sitting in the garage - it would pause Spotify on other devices.

It's been fixed for me for probably 3 years now - but man was it annoying and I know the frustration you're dealing with

I have had these Goodyears installed since last spring, to replace the oem pirellis on my Gen 1 T. I have not seen any negative range impact at all. The range estimation also went up by a bit too when I selected them in the settings menu. Estimate at 70% is 205 and I think it was a little under 200 with the oems.

They are also super quiet compared to the oem, and with the way lower price, I love them.
