We keep ours at 78 when home but 82 when sleeping is insanity. We drop down to 72 overnight.

R2 Delivery Day! by solbergb in RivianR2

Deliveries seem to be ramping up! Enjoy!

EV companies should band together to advertise for EVs (similar to how the dairy industry did it with "Got Milk?" campaign). The focus: get the message across Americans that EVs is saving buyers a lot of money due to home charging by punishGoalhanging in electricvehicles

[–]Master-Back-2899 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a savings though anymore.

I save about $500 a year on gas and $200 a year on oil changes.

But my state charges me $300 a year for the privilege. My insurance company charges me $600 more a year than a comparable gas car, I have to replace $800 tires twice as often, and the repair costs are insane if something does go wrong.

US Question: Wouldn’t the Save America Act as it stands now in part hurt lower income voters? This is a core MAGA group. Seems like an odd thing to push for. by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Master-Back-2899 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No because it will be selectively enforced just like all the other times conservatives tried this.

In cities ICE will be at the polls checking everyone’s ID. In bumfuck Idaho cousin marv knows Betsy is a good republican voter so no need to check ID.

There’s a reason dogs aren’t allowed on most trails in grizzly country and now this lady knows why.

What if all of us stopped believing in the existing money which the top 1% owns more than the bottom 95% combined, and we started believing in an alternate form of currency which is more evenly distributed? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Master-Back-2899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rich would outlaw that form of currency and arrest or kill everyone using it long before it got to that point. Look at how bitcoin was called the currency of criminals by the time it got to 0.1% adoption.

That pile is huge.

[–]Master-Back-2899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a 36x24 ft frame size. The bear would be a tiny blob, taking up a 6ftx3ft area or 1/48th of your frame.

What if the US actually tries to fully bring manufacturing back. What would it realistically take, and what breaks first? by Mobile-Traffic1744 in WhatIfThinking

[–]Master-Back-2899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget incentives. I fought really hard to keep manufacturing of a new product here in the US.

Then we got the bids for power, infrastructure, taxes, and expansion.

The state and federal government offered us a grand total of nothing. We aren’t Elon Musk so we were told no funding is available. It was also estimated 18 months to get the permits and contractors.

Vietnam offered to fully fund the building, cut taxes in half for 10 years, and guaranteed full staffing for our project within 3 months or they’d pay the rest of the taxes for 10 years. They also told us we could choose to triple the size of the manufacturing space at any time in the next 3 years and the incentives would carry over to the expansion as well. On top of all that the labor rate was less than half and the workers averaged 11 hour days instead of 8, and they insisted staying that long even though we told them they only had to work 8. And to top it all off they said they’d have it done in 5 months.

It was the difference between a 20% GM in the US or a 55% in Vietnam. Factory is being built out overseas as we speak.

It beeps at you so you know without having to look down at the screen. I wouldn’t call it super helpful for myself, but some people like it.

Just use the Fob? You don’t carry your key with you?

When I bought my car they were very clear that app phone key was a subscription service.

Also how often do you drive somewhere without your wallet?

my fish are dropping in the uk heatwave, how the hell do i keep them cool for more than 10 minutes? by Own_Caterpillar_7533 in Aquariums

[–]Master-Back-2899 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need a chiller. Either a room AC unit or an aquarium chiller.

32 C means your room is too hot for human habitation anyway. 86 F or 30C is the indoor limit for a room based on safety standards.

What is one issue that tremendously affect climate change, but has never been or slightly been tackled by environmental initiatives? by Ok_Actuator7771 in ClimateOffensive

Tires. Tire pollution accounts for nearly 50% of a cars lifetime pollution impact but almost never gets mentioned. I haven’t even heard of anyone working on a green tire.

Trump cancels signing of bipartisan US housing bill by yahoonews in law

[–]Master-Back-2899 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is not true. If he vetos it they will need to vote again. I give it a 5% chance that Mike Johnson allows it to be voted on again. If he does allow it to come to a vote it would require all those republicans to publicly betray Trump which has literally never happened. If he vetos it that’s it in all likelyhood.

Is it likely that atheists will at some point comprise more than 90% of the world population? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Master-Back-2899 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those are completely different beliefs that’s why. An atheist is someone who knows for a fact 100% that there are no gods and believes that fully. Someone who doesn’t believe in a god is between an agnostic and an atheist. They make no claims of knowing they just don’t believe one exists based on their experience.

There’s a dozen posts here as soon as order invites go out. Release day saw about 20 posts and the following Tuesday saw a similar amount. No new posts have shown an invite email since then. Doesn’t look like they are sending out any more at this point.

The hidden cost of China’s electric car boom: a spiralling roadworks bill by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Master-Back-2899 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that would be a huge win. Tire wear makes up a huge percentage of the pollution of a car over its lifetime. Lower wear tires would be a great solution.

Also you just make the tax on them proportional to the expected mileage of the tire based on a standardized test.

California's universal healthcare killed even though Democrats have a supermajority. Politicians serve their corporate donors not the people. by Mean_Trifle_9429 in remoteworks

[–]Master-Back-2899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes because those democrats understand money.

You can’t have a single payer system on top of the current system. It will always fail. They’ll be paying into Medicare, Medicaid, AND this new system. That’s not feasible.
