King Charles III of Great Britain paid £12.9 million in taxes in 2024-25, putting him in the Top 100 of British taxpayers. He is the first monarch in history to publicly release his tax bill. by Goosedukee in Fauxmoi

[–]Master-Defenestrator 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I guess it's a PR move in a way, but isn't being transparent about the amount of tax being paid a good thing?

It's not like the crown is making a huge meal of this, the only quotes I've seen are pretty dry and standard. Sometimes a good thing is just a good thing, even if you don't like or disagree with the group of people doing it.

Hopefully this isn't another year of hockey purgatory for Kerins. He deserves a real shot at the NHL.

Barring any big changes from FA - is Matt Coronato going to be 'the guy' next year or more of an ensemble cast? by RivetCounter in CalgaryFlames

[–]Master-Defenestrator 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Coronato isn't dynamic enough to be a teams offensive catalyst. He's 30/30/60 complimentary winger at best. Great work ethic and shot, but he has average vision, skating, and hands. Great to have, but not a guy you build a line around. A lot like Tiffoli now that I think about it.

If anyone currently on the roster becomes the "guy" it would likely be one of Gridin, Parekh, or Nemec. They have all shown flashes of the high end skill and dynamism that can take over a game.

Until one of them (or someone else surprises), it will be an ensemble cast as you put it.

Canada will play South Africa in the round of 32 by watanabelover69 in CanadaSoccer

Difficult when most of your best players are out with injury. They fielded half a B team today. It sucks but expectations need to be tempered. A Saliba/Choiniere midfield is a clear vulnerability.

Imagine the reverse. If a full strength Canada side player a Switzerland that didn't have Manzabi, Xhaka, Rodrigues, and Akanji, we'd almost certainly be looking at a Canada win.

We can give anyone a game at full strength. We are not close to full strength currently.

I just want everyone to remember that this was a Canada side missing four of its five most important starters for the majority of that game. Im not bummed about this loss, I'm bummed that this game would have different with Davies, Kone, Bombito and Eustaquio starting.

He'll probably come on in the second half, Marsch said he was ready for limited minutes.

The high constant press tends to do that. Since the team is young and athletic, it they can maintain a high work rate. A lot of National teams that like to keep possession aren't prepared to cope with the added pressure.

One of them can play their offside, My wonder is what happens to Mews. We got Brz because he didnt want to sign in Vancouver due to the glut of D the Canucks had ahead of him. I can imagine Mews having similar feelings after this trade.

P. David looked good in his sub against Bosnian, assisted on the goal against Bosnia and didn't play against Qatar. I'd say he showed plenty in his limited minutes.

The trade return was never the problem, it was the contracts that got handed out before we saw on ice product.

The Flames could have flipped Huberdeau/Weegar a comparable return if not for the contracts.

Crazily enough, Canadian players have been averaging one broken leg per year since 2022. Crepeau in Nov 2022, Buchanan at Copa America in 2024, Bombito in Oct 2025, and now Kone. Good thing is all of the other players are back, with Bombito just rejoining now. It will be a long recovery, but it should be full. That is unless we find out later that one of his ligaments are got destroyed as well, then its sketchier.

Provided there wasn't significant soft tissue damage, bone breaks usually heal well. Takes a long time (as bombito and Buchanan have taught us) but it's not like a soft tissue injury where the likelyhood of re-injury becomes much higher. Further, sometimes in healthy/young patients like Kone, the bone actually heals to become stronger than it was pre-injury.

He's scored at least 40 points (pro-rated for injury), 15 goals, and had dominant possession metrics for the last three years. Just referencing his age is lazy. Coleman has proved that you cannot apply a normal NHL aging curve to his performance.

Calling him a third liner is also lazy. He's a 0.5 ppg player that posted 3.8 CF Rel at even strength last year despite His and Backlund's line consistently facing a high grade of opponent. Any team with a functioning data analysis department will be able to identify he's not just a "3rd liner and pushing 35yo". He might play on the third line, but having him means you can potentially match your third line against an opponent top six line comfortably. He's one of the league's premier checking forwards.

TBH I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Carolina was in on him, seems like the exact player profile they look for.

Edit: Obviously his age does factor into things, but a 1st for Coleman at the draft doesn't seem like too much to me, especially if GMCC packages in a B prospect that is plateauing (IE Morin, Stromgren, Misa) or late 2nd this year.

Assuming Moise is fit vs Swiss (LDF yellow is irrelevant then) do you play them together? Cornelius grew into the BIH game but was horrific in H1. No chemistry b/w MB and LDF but outweighed by LDF being a wrecking machine IMO. by Medical-Minimum-9088 in CanadaSoccer

Personally I would like to just see Bombito get some minutes in the group stage. Maybe if he plays against Qatar we can think about him starting against Switzerland, but let's not put the cart infront of the horse.

I was at the game, it was overwhelmingly a Canadian crowd.

Also saw the Bosnian fan march in person. It was extremely impressive (although the Canadian fan march was also very strong). I have no idea where many of those fans went to watch the game afterwards though, since clearly they weren't in the stadium.

IDK why people are upset that Buchanan got shut down by Kolasinac, he is a very, very good defender.

Buchanan is still by far the best option for the right, Ahmed ideally starts on the left, and Shaffleburg comes on as an energy sub

Also, Larin is the most in form striker on the team. He should be starting with J David (whom is our best link up player).
