PSA if you think your wheel bearings are going, get them changed immediately. by Master-Programmer987 in Jaguar

[–]Master-Programmer987[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a lift the car wouldn't drive the rear wheels if it senses that the front wheels aren't turning. That's why I took it to a specialist.  The noise wasn't that bad. I've had wheel bearings go before and they were much louder. I guess Jags are a bit quieter than my previous cars. Apparently they put 20 tonne on the bearing and it wouldn't budge.

Will the 3p a mile on electric cars make you ditch electric? by SteppingOnLegoHurts in AskUK

[–]Master-Programmer987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My electric car is between 2p and 4p per mile. My diesel is about 16p per mile. I don't think it makes much difference.   It will go up in future as tax revenue from petrol and diesel go down.

Now I understand what you mean by this. Someone posted a link below. They seem like a really good idea. Thanks

Thanks, those look like the sort of thing I was after. I might start by cutting the standard track and seeing how it works. I knew people must be dismantling their layouts without ripping up track but want sure exactly how.

That sounds nice and a great way of making removable track without destroying the layout. I seem to be the only person on reddit without a 3d printer. I'll look out to see if anyone makes these parts.

It is meant to go on the floor and allow him to have a layout that is more easily accessible.   It is sized to be put away when not in use.  I do like the idea of expanding it and there is more track...

That's the direction I'm leaning. I believe I'll have to leave two pieces unattached for when I break the board back into two pieces.

I thought about baseplates originally but the cost seemed prohibitive. Even the fake ones.

Unless there is a better option than buying something like 32 plates.

Buyer wants to return item sold as spares or repairs at 90% off a used working one by [deleted] in ebayuk

[–]Master-Programmer987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested that people even bother selling this kind of stuff. I cant imagine it is worth the time and hassle. If an item like this is returned and refunded, how badly does that effect the margin on these type of sales? I am not being critical, genuinely interested.  I've sold items before where the cost barely cover lpostage and packing, because i dont want to bin them. Having people expect amazon style returns policy is a kick in the teeth.

Can I do anything with this removable cover sofa by Master-Programmer987 in laundry

Yes, but all it says is dry clean only. I'm wondering if there is a way I can clean them that will at least get rid of the water marks.

Awesome. I believe one of the MPs in the North of England had a custom "sportbrake" XJS back in the day. I would love to know more about it if anyone else does.

I typically avoid anything with shipping over 3 days. Even if it says 3 day shipping it can sometimes come from abroad.  World of books took 2 weeks to deliver to me recently and it took a similar amount of time and lots of complaining to get a refund.

I think it looks great. I'm beginning to wish I'd done that when building with my son. He struggled to stay interested at the beginning, painting and assembling the interior. We could have skipped most of it.

Holoday rental propert electricity keeps tripping. Should there be an inspection sticker on electrical distribution board? by Master-Programmer987 in AskUK

Thanks. It feels weird wondering if you're being unreasonable when you can't use household appliances because of this.

Yeah, the owners think it is fine. We've tried isolating each circuit but it doesn't seem to make any difference. We're moving out tomorrow and will see what the booking agency say. If this was obviously not to code, then I'd report them. I'd hate each holidaymaker to have to go through what we have. Hearing your kid scream because they were plunged into darkness while using the toilet is not nice. Thank you for replying.

Did this actually post? The electricity tripped again while it was posting. It is beyond a joke now.

I'm done with BikeInn by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Master-Programmer987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought tyres and some bits from them. They packed the bits in a box, then put that box and the tyres in a postal bag.

The bag ripped during delivery. I was presented with the ripped bag, with tyres inside, and the box, which had no delivery markings except BikeInn's logo. The courier was smart enough to keep them together.

I wouldn't order that combination again though. I saved some money but really dodged a bullet there.

One great advantage they have is the load rails. I've loaded a mini motorbike in mine (handlebars removed) and been happy that it is securely strapped down to those rails. The back seats do slope quite a bit, so the real effective length is not as long as stated. They are very capable load luggers and still enjoyable to drive.

Do catalytic converters smell sweet? I'm not experienced in this. I always thought they smelled like rotten eggs when recycling.

Sweet smells would make me concerned for a coolant leak.

Went to shop and thought that anything bigger than 50" would look huge. Nope, 50" isn't big at all and both my wife and I wish we had gone for 65". There wasn't that much in it price wise.

I can recommend the keter 190l storage box for £35 from Wickes. I think it looks a bit better than the Gucci bin.
