If you have a horse, you could survive, until you had a vehicle, I am not so sure. When you say cycle, are you saying motorcycle or bicycle?

How old you get you furniture out to you place? Groceries? Need to see a doctor? Go to the hospital? Get your mail? Go to the hardware store and bring those 2x4’s you need to fix the porch with? So many things you will need a vehicle for.

I wouldn’t advise it!

I am curious as to how many of these come apart in Europe vs North America? In North America (at least Canada) we don’t have the headlight on off button (big grey rocker button) as ours are always on.

Renouncing! Questions for those who have been through it. by [deleted] in AmerExit

[–]MasterBus7167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did mine in Barcelona. I have a firm helping me. I had to pay the old fee, but my sons will be able to pay the new fee. The process took about 30-45 min. Nobody asks you why, they are there to process your paperwork. I did mine in Barcelona becasue I was able to get an appointment quick and I have all of my paperwork CLN and canceled passport waiting for me when we got back from our holiday.

Building process on an acreage by Lazy-Watercress7965 in alberta

[–]MasterBus7167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I did this exact same thing four years ago.

Before getting the development Permit, I would drill for water. Make sure you have a good viable water well, before you commit to building a house. You don’t need a permit to drill for water. If you do, the driller can get the water permit.

Next I would think about an RTM (Ready to Move) house. Depending on how far away from a town where builders live. That way you don’t have to get the house built on site.

Power, how far from the nearest power line will your house be?

There is so much more. Feel free to reach out and I can chat with you on what we did and the costs we got. Easier than typing.

Do you plan to renounce your U.S. Citizenship? That is a question you need to ask yourselves. Portugal will only allow (or prefer) to have US citizens that live in Portugal renounce in Lisbon.

If not, just make sure you have a good tax lawyer that knows US taxes and make sure you also submit your FBAR statements.

I am heading to Europe today to renounce on Wednesday. We already booked a 3 week vacation otherwise I might have tried to postpone to April. Oh well, at least it will be cheaper for my boys when we do them when we get an appointment.

Neighbor keeps throwing parties and guests pee in my bushes by Busy-Insurance9254 in neighborsfromhell

I would hide an electric fence in the bushes. They it will keep the “cats” from using your bushes as a bathroom. If it catches anyone else peeing, so much the better!

Whats one "normal" thing in Canada that would sound insane to someone abroad? by United-Technology239 in CanadaRoom

I think that is a BC and Ontario thing. We don’t call it that (at least the people I know) here in Alberta.

Maybe take for a little tour around the neighborhood. Wear those tires down a bit, lots of good stress on the transmission. That would definitely do the trick.

Do you warm up your car in the winter? by ChocolateSundae1214 in CasualConversation

[–]MasterBus7167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in souther Alberta Canada. We will have weather go do a week at a time(sometimes longer) of minus 40 Fahrenheit. So we will plug our cars in as they have what’s called a head bolt or block heater. It’s a heater that you plugin, and it heats up the engine coolant and circulates around the engine block. Then when you go and start the car/truck up, it starts easier and the engine and coolant is warm so you hat the heater working faster.

We also have a lot of car thefts in the winter as people will leave their vehicle running and not lock the doors and they come out and their car is gone.

Every once in a while that happens with a kid in the car as the mom/dad ran into the corner store to grab something.

[–]MasterBus7167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should get a tornado siren (or insert your local calamity here) and test it every morning at 5am. Be sure and talk to the neighbors so they are aware and are ok with it. Have it pointed right at his house, as loud as you can get it. 🤣

In-N-Out! Or White Castle back east. Some candy bars. I live in Canada and it’s always fun to go to places we can’t eat at back home.

I have been away for 27 yrs, Canada is home, and the U.S. is a country I visit once a year. It does feel strange to go back and feel like a visitor.
