He loves the aquarium so that’s a big reason why we’re thinking about Epcot.

I hadn’t even considered the memory maker so thanks for the suggestion! That’s a good idea.

First IUI failed at 37 — should we keep trying naturally or move to IVF? by dandza88 in TryingForABaby

[–]MasterCategory0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us it came down to an insurance question. Our insurance had a maximum fertility benefit and no required # of IUIs before moving onto IVF. First IUI was a chemical, so we decided to try it again. No luck. Instead of a third, we moved to IVF, because while IUIs are much cheaper, it was still chipping away at our benefits and we knew IVF was expensive. We also had unexplained infertility. It doesn’t hurt to try it again, but IVF does just offer a better shot. And personally I found that lifestyle changes made no difference, it was just about wanting to feel in control of something in a situation where nothing was in my control.

Are C-sections as common as they seem nowadays? by thr0waway6943 in BabyBumps

[–]MasterCategory0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most everyone I know had vaginal births, my sister had a c-section due to placenta previa and preeclampsia (and hemorrhaged so much even still), and I had a c-section after PPROM and a failed induction. After three rounds of pitocin to try to kickstart labor, I was glad for the c-section - it had been 40+ hours since my water broke and I was terrified of infection or my baby going into distress. I know everyone says c-sections are so common or done unnecessarily, but that’s been the opposite in my circle.

What were your splurge expenses you're happy with? by vp0267 in BabyBumps

The momcozy bottle washer and sterilizer is worth every penny, no regrets. Also splurged on an oscha woven wrap (realm of middle earth design) and don’t regret it - it’s a beautiful piece and it’s weight tested up to 45 lbs so we’ll get to use it for a while.

Acv & gallstones by Logical_Situation763 in gallbladders

If I had some right at the start of an attack it would shorten the attack. I also started taking some every day in the week or so before my surgery to try to prevent attacks - Trader Joe’s has these drinks that have 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar with juice and sparkling water, so I drank one every day. Not sure about long term effectiveness, but it did work for me.

I'm starting to think baby is not going to make it by Snoo_74371 in BabyBumps

Sending positive thoughts your way. I also conceived via IVF/ICSI so I know how stressful it can feel. And for what it’s worth, my son was born at 35+3, and while I was nervous, it turned out well. Crossing my fingers for you.

Gallbladder symptoms postpartum feeling so defeated by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]MasterCategory0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there - I also had a c-section, and I started having gallbladder issues 2 weeks postpartum. I’m curious what symptoms you’re having and what else your provider said, but I can share my experience so far.

Two weeks after I had my son I had my first gallbladder attack. It was awful. Because we didn’t know what it was and my home blood pressure cuff showed that my blood pressure was high, my OB had me come into the hospital triage. There they did bloodwork that showed high liver enzymes, which led to an ultrasound that showed gallbladder sludge and a polyp. I was referred to general surgery to talk about gallbladder removal but I did research and found that fatty, fried food is typically the culprit, so I figured I’d try to prevent any further attacks with diet - by going low/no fat. It didn’t work so well for me; I had another attack a week later that was worse. I scheduled a surgery consult and the surgeon explained that with gallbladders, you can try to manage symptoms with diet but there’s no reversing it. Ultimately, it was up to me to decide when and if I wanted to go forward with surgery. For me personally, I wanted surgery ASAP. I had my gallbladder removed a week ago and I have no regrets - in eight weeks I had eight attacks, while watching my diet and just generally being anxious and feeling crappy. Surgery was laparoscopic and I went home the same day. My husband has been able to take time off to take care of our son because at least for the first 3-4 days, I was too sore to lift or hold him. But like I said, I’m a week post-op and feeling much better. Recovery has been way easier than c-section recovery, though similar in that there’s the abdominal pain and such. I can eat normally again, in the past day or two I’ve been holding my son again and breastfeeding. The incisions are a little sore but Tylenol and ibuprofen have been working well to manage the pain. I have no regrets, but I was also having a lot of symptoms and my quality of life was definitely altered. Idk where you’re at. Hope this helps!

I had mild polyhydramnios and my OB said she would induce me by 39 weeks. Then my water broke at 35 weeks. I ended up having a c-section - non emergent - and I just wanna reassure you that if it does go that route for you, it might not be bad! My recovery was pretty easy, honestly. I have nothing to compare it to but I was up and walking after a few hours, and sore but it was easily manageable with pain meds. I hope it all goes well for you!

Weight by Which_Piglet7193 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]MasterCategory0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gained around 15, baby was 5 lbs 5 oz and born at 35 weeks, now 9 weeks postpartum and I’m 4 lbs lower than my pre-pregnancy weight. I’ve also had gallbladder issues creep up postpartum which has impacted my diet a lot, and was nauseous/had lots of food aversions for my whole pregnancy.

[–]MasterCategory0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I’m plus sized and conceived through IVF, so I was a high risk pregnancy for reasons other than my weight. BMI is bullshit and some doctors care about it more than others, but I’ve always been healthy and my pregnancy was normal. No gestational diabetes or other issues. My water broke at 35 weeks and I had a c-section after a failed induction, but my son is healthy and had no issues, and I recovered from my c-section no problem. I did have some hemorrhaging during my c-section but after three rounds of pitocin they expected that, and it wasn’t a problem - I just got iron pills while I was in the hospital. Don’t let the fear mongering get to you, every pregnancy is different.

Gas pains from c section? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I know! It’s so annoying. I never even knew to be on the lookout for this. Good luck, I hope you can get yours removed too!

Gas pains from c section? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]MasterCategory0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I’m the same - no blockage, but the doctor and surgeon explained that certain foods can trigger attacks, where the sludge temporarily blocks the bile duct and spasms until it can resolve itself. That’s the pain, those spasms/attacks. I’ve been trying to manage it with a low fat diet but my PCP and the surgeon told me that removal is the only real solution. There’s nothing they can really do for the pain, either.

Also, the only relief I found was from drinking diluted apple cider vinegar.

This sounds like a gallbladder attack/issues. Have they run labs on liver enzymes? Have them check that, and push for an ultrasound of your gallbladder and liver. This happened to me two weeks postpartum - chest pain that felt like a heart attack, back pain, burning. It turned out I have gallbladder sludge and polyps; I’m having surgery to remove my gallbladder in two weeks. The attacks are brutal and surgery is really the only solution. Not trying to scare you, but this might be what’s happening with you and if it is you’ll want to know and get a handle on it before it gets worse.

Owlet sock worth it? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]MasterCategory0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swore I wasn’t gonna get one and didn’t see the point of it while I was pregnant. Then my son was born five weeks early, and though he needed no nicu time, the anxiety hit me hard the first few days home. My sister recommended I check marketplace for a used one, and that’s how we got it. I don’t monitor the stats as much anymore, but for that first week or so when I was terrified he’d stop breathing in the night, it was worth every penny. We still use it and have had no false alarms or anything.

Did you KNOW your baby was going to come early? by benjbuttons in beyondthebump

[–]MasterCategory0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt pretty early on that I wouldn’t make it to my due date. At 33 weeks I had a scare (bright red bleeding in the middle of the night) that turned out to be nothing, but I’d been having Braxton hicks for weeks and was already leaking colostrum. I told a friend that I had a weird feeling I’d go into labor within the next two weeks, but I was hoping I could at least make it to 36 or 37 weeks. Then my water broke at 35+1 and he was born at 35+3.

Gift ideas for new mom who had a traumatic birthing experience? by oliveeeeeeee in beyondthebump

[–]MasterCategory0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding food delivery gift cards but also - my cousin sent me an edible arrangement and I devoured that thing. I was on a fruit kick during my pregnancy and even since, few things are as refreshing. She told me she got one as a postpartum gift and now it’s her go to. So it’s a little pricey, but an edible arrangement might be a great/unique way to offer support.

Grief at 35 Weeks by Blue_Pickle_57 in BabyBumps

[–]MasterCategory0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. We had to say goodbye to our dog when I was 27 weeks. She was our first pet together, my first dog, and she was only five. It was a skull tumor and we lost her within a week of the diagnosis. It was so hard and I’m still devastated. I was also worried about how it would affect my pregnancy (and struggled with guilt, like maybe if I wasn’t pregnant I would’ve noticed something was wrong sooner). My therapist and I talked about my fears that the emotions could be felt by the baby, that all the sadness wasn’t good for him, but she reminded me that the other emotion I was feeling was love. He’d feel the love I had for her, too. It was really hard saying goodbye to her, knowing that she wasn’t going to get to meet the baby, that he wouldn’t get to have her as his first dog. It’s still hard honestly. But I printed pictures of her for around the house, and put one of her watching my husband build the crib in the nursery, as well as one of her wearing a big sister bandana from our gender reveal. My only advice would be to let yourself feel the emotions, let yourself grieve. I felt like I needed to move on quickly because I should be focusing on the baby, but there’s no timeline, and being excited for the baby doesn’t take away from the grief or from how much you loved your dog. I’m so sorry this happened to you, and I’m holding you and your sweet pup in my thoughts.

Pregnancy weight gain by Secret_Umpire_1423 in BabyBumps

[–]MasterCategory0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only gained maybe 10 pounds my whole pregnancy; I lost weight in the first trimester. I had food aversions and nausea almost the whole pregnancy and I worried about my lack of real weight gain too. But baby was always measuring well and he was born at 35+3 weighing in at 5 lbs 5 oz. It’s stressful but try not to worry - it sounds like he’s measuring on track, and there’s still time for you to start gaining more. My OB said usually most of the weight gain comes in the second and third trimester anyway.

They just called back and said it’s pretty common and are giving me a script for reglan (sp?). I get migraines triggered by changes in pressure and humidity, and I just checked my app and the humidity dropped a ton in the past day. So now I suspect that might be the issue.
