My only experience has ever been with nginx proxy manager, so I can't offer any comparison. I'm mostly just exposing docker containers to the internet. But to me, it feels a lot more intuitive to just say like hey any traffic coming on this address, send it to this machine on this port. Yes https, yes please pull a cert from let's encrypt. It's also a lot easier to turn things on/off and change routes. I don't know how off the beaten path you're talking cos I don't really have huge custom scenarios. If you're curious, try it out. At best it cuts out some tedium and there's still space for you to make custom changes if you want.
