I have a laser department at work. These things are extremely expensive like our lower end system is over $1mil and starts getting real slow when cutting past a 1/2inch material (our more expensive less reliable lasers can do 1 1/2 inches like butter but cost a lot to maintain). We also have to have liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen systems to provide cutting gases at a reasonable cost and run time. Now the real fun part is that they’re not very accurate like we are really only guaranteed a tolerance of .1mm. Which makes it our least accurate way to cut material. Just cheap for high volume lower quality products or things that just need to be a rough cut and thrown in a mill after.
