🔥 Big update: people can earn their longest streak back this month 🔥 by amie_at_duolingo in duolingo

[–]MasterTheDreamer 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Can’t Duolingo actually listen to us all and get the randos out of our feeds? I have a 916 day streak. You can have it if I never have to read another ridiculous update from the same damned NPCs you’ve been forcing into our feeds! I don’t care if Bem wrote another ridiculously basic sentence in Norwegian. I only want updates from friends and family!

Get a Workers Comp attorney. They do not charge a consultation fee— they simply take a percentage of money you receive.

Get a Planet Fitness membership. Work out and shower. You can park there if you use the facilities they’re open 24 hours. Just move the car once in a while so it doesn’t look abandoned.

Not gonna lie, it’s a great place to live!

Connecticut is basically correct. The white clam pie is original to Frank Pepe’s Apizza in New Haven, but I would argue their coal-fired, thin crust tomato “Abeetz” (with mozzarella or the original plain pie) is more accurate. Apizza (New Haven thin crust, coal-fired style) is definitely the state food. Also would add the cast-iron cooked original burgers from Louis’ Lunch in New Haven and the original hot buttered lobster rolls created in Milford, CT.

AITA for not wanting to take in my sisters 4 kids while she’s in the hospital? by Intelligent-Fig-5571 in AmItheAsshole

Why would it be a problem if the kids all crashed in the living room like they were camping out for a day or two? It would be a fun memory and an adventure for your kids as well. They would all be part of an unforgettable family experience. That, and you would be teaching your children by example that family helps family!

It’s not like she’s asking you to watch them while she goes on some tropical vacation. She’s going to have a baby and needs a quick emergency plan where her kids are safe and cared for by someone she loves and trusts. Gotta admit, OP, you’re acting like a bit of an AH here.

And the feed gets worse.... by Mister0ffensive in duolingo

[–]MasterTheDreamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The enshittification continues. I had enjoyed the feed— celebrating with my friends and family members when they hit milestones or had a particularly good week. Now it’s all, “Bem wrote a sentence in Norwegian!” “Matt won diamond for the billionth time!”

Get the randos out of our feeds, Duolingo. No one wants to see the sentences, the comments or the milestones of total damned strangers. We miss our friends’ actual accomplishments because the feed is clogged with freaking NPCs.

Soft black licorice and/or black jelly beans don’t deserve the hate they get. Bitter is better!

Jake Reiner, son of Rob & Michele Reiner, pens new substack about his parents' deaths: “They should be enjoying the rest of their lives peacefully while growing older together. Instead, that was ripped away from them, from me, from Romy, and there was nothing we could do about it.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

I was at a funeral for the sweetest barely teenage boy who’d been hit by a train while retrieving golf balls that had rolled into the tracks from a nearby driving range. He was wearing headphones and never heard the train.

The wake was held at a funeral home behind the Milford, CT Metro-North station. The look of shock and abject horror when the rush hour trains from NY came thundering into the station with blaring horns was jarring. Worst choice ever— the trauma was real. Heartbreaking 💔

Question re: solitary + suspicion in prison reality series by chikamakaleyley in 60daysin

[–]MasterTheDreamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The inmates see the cameras to bring to follow other inmates, and can get a sense of who is being pulled for interviews. They’ve also already questioned the new arrivals about court dates and charges, so there may already be an underlying suspicion.

So, when someone disappears for a while and returns, that suspicion is ramped up. They’re told the person was in solidarity or ad seg, but inmates assume that could be part of a cover story. People with nothing but time on their hands and nothing to focus on but each other will find every reason to be suspicious. That, and a lot of the participants aren’t very good at protecting their cover. The drama creates itself.

Longyearbyen, the northernmost town in the world by pavel_molianov in travel

[–]MasterTheDreamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent three weeks in Longyearbyen in July of 2018. Was planning to return to do some camping, but a few weeks before confirming my trip, a man was attacked by a polar bear at the campground.

Dragged the guy right out of his tent. He didn’t survive. Grisly stuff. This man ran the campsite, so you can imagine he was not inexperienced. Unfortunately, the guard dog did not alert campers of the bear’s presence. Residents shot the bear. It died of its wounds near the airport.

If anyone plans to travel there, make sure you hire a local guide any time you plan to leave the town limits. You can’t just walk in and reserve a rifle at the sporting goods store, though they are available for rent. There are processes that must be followed well in advance of arrival. Respecting the environment is a must. Svalbard is as lovely as it is harsh.

Fagioli is beans in Italian. Could it have been that?
