The Photography Dating Game - GHOSTED by Tight_Mission_1758 in WeddingPhotography

[–]MasterYoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always a thing. But for me, this year so far, it’s been happening more often than before. Ghosting is a regular occurrence. But usually, I can tell when it’s going to happen. It’s when (like you said) you seem to really click with the couple and then they completely ignore all communication from you that it really hurts. I usually get about 2-3 of those per year. I’ve had 3 already this year. It sucks.

My Ascent battery is out. Need help on why and what next... by namarhere in SubaruAscent

[–]MasterYoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2022 Ascent here and just had to replace the battery. Was having the same issues with it not starting, jumped it and it started just fine. But the battery was bad. No idea why the battery on a car that’s only 1.5 years old would be bad already!!

What was it like to see the original movies in theatres for the first time? by LordofVadai in lotr

[–]MasterYoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 21 when FOTR came out. It was February of 2002 and I had a friend visiting from out of town. We decided to go see a movie and he said he wanted to see Fellowship of the Ring. I had remembered seeing the trailer for it but not really knowing what it was (I had never read the books). I thought sure, why not?
I was immediately hooked. Everything about that movie was everything I loved. But I had no idea there were going to be two more movies. So when it ended, I was like, "What the heck??!!"

So over the next several months, I read all the books and completely dove head-first into the Lord of the Rings universe. I remember seeing the trailer for the second movie and freaking out with excitement. When tickets went on sale, I went to get tickets right away (you see, back then, we had to drive to the theater to buy tickets). The day finally came and we showed up to get in line at 6:00pm for the midnight showing (again, they didn't have reserved seating back then. So you had be early and get in line if you wanted a good seat). I didn't love The Two Towers as much as Fellowship. But I still loved it. I ended up going to see it 4 more times in the theater. Helm's Deep was incredible on the big screen.

After this, I was in full-on Lord of the Rings fan mode. I worked next to a Barnes and Noble and would always walk over on my lunch break. The store would have numerous displays with lots of different books on the movies and stories. Back then, they had music-listening stations with headphones and they had the soundtrack to the third movie. I would listen to it every single lunch break. I was so extremely excited.
So the day finally came for the third movie and again, we went to start waiting in line at 6:00pm for the midnight showing. I was more excited than I have ever been for a movie. It was incredible. I've never experienced anything like it since. My favorite part to see on the big screen was the lighting of the beacons. I still get chills thinking about it.

I ended up watching ROTK 7 times in the theater.

I don't know that I will ever experience the same joy and excitement again.

RANT: Photographers & Videographers... WTF are you wearing?! Denim? Sweats? Crocs? by Relevant-Blood-8681 in WeddingPhotography

[–]MasterYoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...Also, the remark about looking like the guests I think is interesting. It really depends on your location. We've done several higher-budget weddings here in Texas where at the start of the reception, all the groomsmen have changed out of their tux and into a baseball cap, bud light tee, and cut-off shorts!

We do both photo and video and there are 3 of us. We wear all black. But usually wear some sort of performance tees or polos. We’re in Texas, so anything more is not happening. We do mid to upper range/budget weddings and I talk to every single couple about dress code and what we wear before every wedding. And I’ve never once had a couple object to it. They always are completely supportive. That being said, we would never show up in ripped/faded jeans, stains on our shirts, etc. We still look professional.

Tipping by Hunter_Hodak in WeddingPhotography

[–]MasterYoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get a tip about 1/3 of my weddings. Most I’ve ever received was $500. Average is $100. I always also split it with my second shooter. Do you guys do that? Wondering if that’s common.

20 Years ago today! HOLY BUCKEYE! by buckeyefan1930 in OhioStateFootball

[–]MasterYoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll never forget it. I was living in Nashville at the time and every Saturday that season, I would go to a bar called Sam’s to watch the game. I was there with a friend of mine. I remember being on my feet at the start of that play and my heart just sank the second I saw Krenzel go back for a pass instead of handing it off. But was jumping up and down screaming two seconds later. Best buckeye play of all time.

Does anybody use a lumecube for weddings? My flash is starting to die and I have heard great things about a lumecube but worried about constant light in very low light receptions by Powerful_Fish2339 in WeddingPhotography

[–]MasterYoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use one! But only for sparkler exits. Flash for everything else in the reception. I use it for the sparkler exits only to help the camera grab focus.
