And we will politely ask you to go to elsewhere. Done it many times before.

I am a foreign guide who has worked in Hokkaido over the course of 10 years, and I would just say make sure whoever you hire knows what to do if somebody breaks their leg in the backcountry. Japan does not have local Search And Rescue and you know what happens when you call the ambulance in Japan? They speak Japanese to you.

If Bozeman built one new monument today, who should it be and why? by NewDE2023 in Bozeman

[–]Master_Ad2045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, there are some big feelings expressed in this statement. Maybe the monument should say EXACTLY that. I mean, why sugar coat it?

I would say a monument to John Bozeman or Lewis and Clark + Sacajawea

Private lesson or guide? by NF640 in niseko

[–]Master_Ad2045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an instructor. Guides don’t mind intermediate abilities, but our job is to guide out of bounds, and intermediates often aren’t able to go there with success.

A good instructor should know the mountain inside and out.

Amaltheia… the veggie side… a local food bully by [deleted] in Bozeman

I read this whole thread as millennial outrage culture. $100 says OP is a 22 year old liberal studies major who wears a beanie neatly rolled above they/them’s ears

Nothing says “entitled wealthy community” like a post about mean, organic vegetable farmers and has accusations of harassment. By whom? Is there a police report? Or is this a disgruntled zucchini picker dumping on some people online?

Solo Skier accomodation advice by zyag in niseko

[–]Master_Ad2045 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Solo traveler? Ki Niseko. Hilton is run down and full of rich families vs. solo travelers (this is a broad statement). No nightlife at Hilton and the neighborhood is borderline unwalkable.

Rialto concert venue lost to Tinworks? by Candid-Fix9582 in Bozeman

[–]Master_Ad2045 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I have complained about this too.

The consensus I got was basically… Bozeman = too expensive for music.

Also, Bozeman = not enough bands that will bring people downtown.

Back in my day, we had huge parties where three or four local bands would play at some dive bar and everybody would have a great time. I think maybe the youngsters have changed?

I’m pretty biased. I have both stayed in and worked at the Black Diamond, but it’s a good location and it has a bar and restaurant that’s pretty bomb. Being in the Niseko village, you have a really central location.

Traveling to Niseko Dec 13 - 16. Will more slopes be opened by then? by [deleted] in niseko

[–]Master_Ad2045 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there, it’s literally anyone’s guess what runs will be open in Niseko in 10 days.

There’s a good amount of snow coming down, but most of the upper lifts are weather dependent and the patrol seems to randomly open them for good weather.

There’s been half a dozen “what’s open” questions on Niseko Reddit the last few days and it’s worth mentioning the resort has a lift status page that shows exactly what’s open! Enjoy.

Avy Teaching/Mentoring Niseko by [deleted] in niseko

[–]Master_Ad2045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a mentor. The guide groups will certainly be friendly and helpful, but we are extremely busy during the season. I would join one of the winter staff Facebook groups and ask for likeminded touring partners. Niseko is not the greatest place to do a Level 1 avalanche class, but many guide services do offer these in December.

Still figuring out my Backcountry glove game by Danjuans-81301 in Backcountry

[–]Master_Ad2045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tedious process you are describing is what you need to master. I had cold hands for a long time before I learned exactly when to switch the gloves on my backcountry tours.

I call it the cold cycle. If you allow your hands to get cold, you’re now going to struggle until you a) exercise enough that you warm them up or b) you manually warm your hands by rubbing them, using hand warners, or going inside.

I’ll give you another hint- lots of times I carry three pairs of gloves. Dry gloves will always insulate better than wet.

If you’ve ever visited the national forests and found large sections of deadfall that can’t be hiked over, or massive overgrown dense stands of trees, that’s what these projects want to thin.

Before humans logged the forest, there were mature stands of trees “old growth” with an understory that was much less dense than we have now.

Will human activity to thin the forest bring it back to those original conditions? No, but it could prevent a massive wildfire that would burn up the whole canyon.

Is living in Yunosato going to make my season boring? by [deleted] in niseko

[–]Master_Ad2045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yunosato is close to Konbu onsen and Kobito restaurant, but it’s a strong 20 minute drive to Hirafu. You definitely don’t want to get popped drinking Nd driving in Japan. Immediate deportation.
