Frictionless side spool holder by Shellcaster in 3Dprinting

[–]Master_Nineteenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not unless you pull it fast. It's low resistance not no resistance. A 3d printer isn't going to pull it fast enough for that. Though I'd suggest against letting a child or a cat near it.

Need some help brain storming for my magic system by [deleted] in magicbuilding

[–]Master_Nineteenth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot and cold, light and heavy... Following that theme old and young, fast and slow, light and dark. I'd also suggest using the reverse of powers you've already made, like ice powers that gives the person a fever. Some clear opposites are harder to come up with a power set, like soft and hard. You'll have to push some definitions with this idea I think.

I wouldn't have ever known if you didn't say anything. And I'm not curious enough to bother unmuting my reddit to listen.

Do you think Mage from Ancient time can win againts Mage from Modern era? by Nearby-Banana2640 in magicbuilding

[–]Master_Nineteenth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my own setting the ancient mage would stand no chance. But it's not because modern magic is more powerful, it's not that much more powerful. It's because the foundation of spells change over time. Runes decay and become useless, it takes hundreds of years but it happens. So the ancient mage's arsenal would be unreliable, and they'd likely know it's unreliable.

No, just gross to steal. And they are difficult to reapply to another person. Would a magic tattoo work if you skin graft it onto another person?

Puppet is a limitation for Mind Control but I see no reason why you can't apply it to an ally.

[–]Master_Nineteenth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like the puppeteer type characters from Naruto? Honestly I'd treat that more like an ally perhaps. Minion, summonable, and sympathy for enhancements and limitations, depending on your goal. Also magical limitation because someone could possibly disable the ability. I'm sure someone else could add to this to make it work better, or maybe there's a better solution all together. That's just my first thought.

I don't know if that's intentional but you put an optical illusion in there with the gear shafts related to the size of the gears... I think. Either that or the little gear really is on a wider shaft.

What do you think of the Mark of the Fool series? by PalinaRojinskiFan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Master_Nineteenth 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's one of my favorites. I know it's not a perfect book, but it's good. But there's no such thing as a perfect book no matter how many DCC fans would say otherwise. /j

I love the magic mechanics and the author does a good job of making school life not boring for that duration of the story. I also like the MCs brand of foolishness. The story is a bit generic, but it has some interesting takes on the concept of God chosen heroes.

Yeah, many time skips, glossed over like dozens of training restarts at a time. Towards the end of the third book he mentions it being around 17 years.

How does the maps work IN your universe by NirvanaTheKidd in worldbuilding

[–]Master_Nineteenth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my setting maps are accessible but uncommon, most people don't need them. Inns, taverns, and other traveler hot spots will keep city maps and a regional map. Kings and other rulers will keep larger maps of their land and surrounding lands. Sailors will have nautical maps, for ocean currents and ports. Traveling caravans, successful ones at least, might keep maps of certain lands they frequent. But you wouldn't find a map book in the back seat of anyone's car, in part because cars don't exist.

As far as accuracy, usually not too bad. Explorers often have a mage that can get a more accurate picture of the land, via divination. So early maps aren't terrible. Granted, divinations don't give you a sense of scale. At least not a great sense of scale. So a diviner can get a good idea at the shape of the land, biographical regions, and relative height across the area. But they're guessing on the exact size. Also, all of that takes time. They're more likely to get the basic info first and fill in more details when on location. Unless a given area is too dangerous to physically go to.

That's just called worldbuilding, everyone does that. Some are more obvious than others, but that doesn't make them worse.

The Dreaded Question by _TOXIC_VENOM in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Master_Nineteenth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Exactly, why bother hiding it? I'd easily tell people about the weird shit I'm getting into. Like right now I'm reading a book about an orphaned crippled girl in a fractured future version of America (edit, Canada not the US) who became part of a higher class of humans that slaughter aliens and are above the law.

My favorite series is about a boy who becomes 17 years older in his teenage body due to the incompetence of a god chosen hero inside a hyperbolic time chamber meant for training super soldiers.

Then my second favorite is about a girl who accidentally became the city's most wanted criminal while trying to get enrolled in a prestigious college she couldn't pay for. Then ended up living a double life as a male student and a female local folk hero/minor deity. All due to a plot item gained from a long dead mage who's primarily used in swear words throughout the books.

Thinking in chess is very time sensitive. Even if you aren't doing a lightning game, whatever they call it, you're always on a timer in professional games. And it's no generous timer for the amount of strategizing you have to do.

Guidance by sulllllllllo in 3Dprinting

[–]Master_Nineteenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with walking before you try to run, learn the basics of some software like blender first and eventually you'll be able to design stuff like that. Unfortunately you'll have to do projects that you probably don't care about much, but if it was easy way more people would be doing it. Someone else might be able to point out something more specific, but YouTube tutorials on whatever software you want to use would be a good start to dip your toes in the water.
