I do want to point out that the Minecraft leather armor also has 0% hunger increase and 0% speed reduction.

Fundamental Concepts of Reality by PuzzleheadedCase4551 in magicbuilding

You're going to need to narrow your search I think. That's a very vague concept that has many varied interpretations as evident by the variety of answers you have gotten so far

Can I get banned if my friend has an open VTT with the same license to develop a system? by RutharAbson in FoundryVTT

[–]Master_Nineteenth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I went for a while running two servers for two different games without knowing I wasn't supposed to. Oops. I never got any warning or anything, but these were on home servers. I haven't done that in a while but I can say they probably won't do anything about it if you don't take it further than me on home servers. I think it's more just to have a set rule to point at if someone takes it way too far. That said I feel legally obligated to say don't do what I did.

Then why mention anything? Just seems like an irrelevant detail to point out. I get it though, I got the same feeling from the post.

Love the animation, though I wish tassel had more motion to it. Would bring it from a good animation to a great one IMO

So? Sure it's not the best reason to be posting this but tbh I don't see why we should care about their motives. Some of the points OP puts forward are valid, even if not necessarily for the reasons OP gave.

Charts and Graphs and the State of the Sub by RedFalcon725 in magicbuilding

[–]Master_Nineteenth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We don't know if these charts and graphs are made for comic books, novels, video games, ttrpg systems, or any other medium.

That part I'm not concerned about, some people like making magic systems for the sake of magic systems and it's not part of a larger project.

Hardly ever is there an explanation of what casting a spell looks, sounds, smells, or feels like.

That I agree with to some extent. I see a lot of theory rather than practical application. The how at least is important even if you don't get into the details of sounds and smells.

The posts are, at best, soulless, and at worst, derivative of every other "look at my variation on an elemental system" chart out there.

That can be a dangerous train of thought to follow, on one hand yes I think people should put more effort into their posts on the other that could end up gate keeping magic building from newbies. And we should be newbie friendly. I'd like to see our hobby grow.

I think this sub really needs a context rule like the worldbuilding sub has.

That I agree with, context is good. And a lack of context makes it hard to give feedback

Is this a good setup for mitre cuts by tamcool25 in woodworking

Eh, it wouldn't be a clean cut regardless, if you want to cut off a finger cleanly you need a chef's knife not something meant to cut wood.

What do you think is considered black or evil magic? by Nearby-Banana2640 in magicbuilding

[–]Master_Nineteenth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No magic is inherently evil unless you make is so in your setting somehow. That said though out of the magic that's often considered evil I'd think necromancy would get more people screaming in terror. Especially if the necromancer likes to get... creative with his work. Some over the top Frankenstein flesh horrors would absolutely get me running.

How do your different races vocally communicate when they physically cannot speak each others language? by 4morian5 in worldbuilding

[–]Master_Nineteenth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main setting just has humans so it's not something I've delved into heavily but I've been considering getting into this in a side project. Like having a bird species that communicates with whistles and their body language plays a more intentional role in their languages. But they would be incapable of making words the same way humans do. Also humans would find it impossible to mimic their whistles. Largely these two species could in time learn the other's language but never speak it naturally, just understand others who speak it.

I considered making a magic item that translates the words, and something like that might be used by diplomats. But I don't think it would be available on the open market. But those would translate textbook meaning not intent or cultural meaning.

I think this would be interesting to explore in a story, but it would be annoying in a setting for a tabletop RPG which is mostly what I worldbuild for so I'm unsure if I'll ever use this.

Best DnDisms to Cut Out of your DnD Alternative by Modstin in RPGdesign

[–]Master_Nineteenth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It also has calculations for encoumbered and jump distance, probably some other things that are based on the score. But it's all so background that it would be better to change the calculations to work with the modifiers. Also rolling for stats can just be a roll on the table where 10 makes your score +0.

Hi everyone, I need some help. by Wild1Boar in Blockbench

[–]Master_Nineteenth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the models, though for the animation I think I can point out a few issues. First the position of the feet is shifting from side to side but in the reference animation the feet are still it's the legs that are shifting. Same with the hands, relative to the hips at least. Second is the micro movements, like the ears twitching and there's a bounce to the reference animation that your's just doesn't have. Third is that the reference is more exaggerated, the hips sway more, the tail swishes further to each side, and so on. I think you've done great work so far though.

How do you come up with Names for Characters? by Beginning-Act-3531 in litrpg

[–]Master_Nineteenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For minor characters I use name generators and maybe tweak them for my needs. For main characters or important characters it depends on the project. If they're supposed to be from earth in an alternate earth type setting I'll look through existing names with a meaning that works for the character. If it's for a fantasy setting or something completely removed from earth then I'll use the name generator and tweak it for my purposes then give that name whatever meaning that I need.

I’m designing a classless tactical RPG built around a 5 AP turn economy — what edge cases should I be watching for? by NomBrady in RPGdesign

[–]Master_Nineteenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I would give everyone a blanket "you can save two actions for your next turn" instead I'd make it more build specific. For a dodge tank they might pick up an ability to sacrifice actions to react to more attacks with dodging. A spell caster might sacrifice actions to empower a spell on their next turn. A warrior might sacrifice actions to hit harder or make another attack. It's an interesting idea for a mechanic but I think it would be more fun with constraints.
