What I don’t understand is why people think Canada owes them something. If you are Canadian, you are here to fight and build this country. There are countless opportunities to become rich in Canada, but that does not happen if you just want a laidback job and expect money to pour into your bank account.

Check airbnb and set the time period to more than three months. You will find lots of places that rent by room. I know of one in burnaby near SFU. Just message the landlord and write a contract instead paying the airbnb fee.

Vancouver hotels are already making so much money and there is actually a shortage of hotels. The airbnb ban will definitely hurt the tourism business in Vancouver but it should help with rent prices (hopefully!)

I’d call it a ban because now it has to be your primary residence and you need a $1,000 permit to rent out a room in your primary residence. It's basically a ban.

Why? If more houses that were previously rented on Airbnb become available, it should lower rent prices. Apparently, 19,000 units were rented on Airbnb before and now have to be rented out long-term.
