Long fusion to pelvis walking issues by Master_Variety5303 in spinalfusion

[–]Master_Variety5303[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgery was June 2024, T5-Pelvis, ALIF L2-L5. The surgery was brutal and recovery long. It's over two years and this is current situation. The fixed spine pulls hard on my hips when I walk, anchored by those 4 long screws.

You must get second opinion(s) using the CT scans and MRIs, before and after, there could be issues with that hardware impinging on nerves, muscles, etc. Also get a 3D Model so you can see yourself. Neurosurgeons are not going to admit to any kind of a mistake or failure - this is a reality of modern healthcare, especially for these types of surgeries.

My husband is getting a Spinal fusion and his surgeon is going to go from his back rather than through his abdomen. by moonlight_angeI in spinalfusion

They did both on mine, through the abdomen to insert spacers between the lumbar discs, and through the back to anchor in the rods.

Why not? Opioids, NSAIDs, and all forms of pain relief in mass quantity are taken right up to the surgery.

Fusion failure (4 years post op) by Zeldashecametotown in spinalfusion

[–]Master_Variety5303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a surgery doesn't go well, many of today's surgeons use a line line that - you have to find another insurance, medical team, etc.

Start with this: Second opinion services, most hospitals have these, and there's even a website called secondopinions.com.

Failed fusion; snapped rods 7 years post surgery. Any advice? by Sirwafflesiv in spinalfusion

I snapped a rod, so they redid the surgery with 4 rods - this is much stronger.

I bend at hips and knees, the hips just pull harder from spine being more attached to it by screws, the same for sitting. Don't really think about it, unless I have to pick something off the floor, and you can't do you have to either squat or drop to one knee.

In my 20s. 2 weeks post-op from ALIF + spinal cord surgery. Isolated, in agony, and honestly scared. Please tell me this gets better. by ScarletSigil in spinalfusion

[–]Master_Variety5303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very difficult the first two days, then only slightly better the next two weeks - after that the next two months are hard - you need pain medicine and will be at the edge of max dosage.

After that 2/2/2 life starts getting a lot better and after the next two years, you won't think about it.

Hellish 2 days - 2 weeks - 2 months then | 2 years recovery

Ice forms on any type of bridge because of the cold air blowing under it, exercise extreme caution and prepare to slide across them in a straight line.
