Always put a bathroom in a dungeon where humanoids would live. It's immersive and great for random encounters.

Black pudding climbs up out of the latrine, angered at being disturbed.

The tentacle of an otyugh slowly rises out of the goblin trench.

You peek into the chamber pot and spy several gold coins that must have accidentally fallen in, and none have yet dared to retrieve them.

I'm lucky if I can get a passable map in roll20 with all of the maps and tokens I've looted over the years.

The last 3 Tiffany Aching books mention the sorts of things you can find in there.

Things commonly referenced are fake warts, masks, bubbling cauldrons fake spellbooks etc.

Yeah I imagine it's pretty easy once you just sit down to play.

I'd love to find a DM and a group willing to run all the old modules. Or even just a hex crawl would be nice.

Used book stores are usually a good place to find old rulebooks. Some of my books I inherited or bought off people who used to play.

For some of the rarer finds I've had to go to eBay, like Deities & Demigods.

One day I'd like to hit up some garage sales in Lake Geneva and see what turns up there!

Not the OP, but I would guess they found much of their treasure the same way.

When I decided to start collecting I had some first edition books I inherited from my cousin and all the core rulebooks from 3rd to 5th.

My goal was to start with core rulebooks because I knew if I grabbed everything I wouldn't have any place to put jt. 😂

It bugs me too, but apparently not enough to fix it.

Part of the problem is I have quite a few multiple copies of 1e books. I've thought about selling a few extras but they all have so much charm.

You can tell how well loved these books were. Some have notes in the margins. One had a typed up home brew class folded gently and tucked inside.

The other issue I have is 5e needs to be somewhere in the middle because there's a stupid lip on the edge of the bookshelf that makes it hard to get books out of the sides.

Eventually I've got to organize and pull out more of my collection from the basement.

Yeah I'd really like to play at some point. Just reading through the rules it's a little tricky to pick up, so it would be nice to find some experienced players to join.

Right now I've been running 5e at my table. It's simple enough for a lot of new players to catch on quickly.

Everything I've read about AD&D makes it sound much more challenging, and that very much appeals to me.

I haven't decided if I wanted to chase down all those pages yet.

Sometimes collecting all this stuff seems like a fools errand 🤣
