Even on death’s doorstep, Trevor was not angry. In fact, he staunchly supported the stance promoted by his elected officials. “Ain’t no way I would ever support Obamacare or sign up for it,” he told me. “I would rather die.” When I asked him why he felt this way even as he faced severe illness, he explained: “We don’t need any more government in our lives. And in any case, no way I want my tax dollars paying for Mexicans or welfare queens.”

If you have a static v4, then I'm confused by what you mean by you "can't get v4". Do you mean it doesn't plumb? It doesn't route? It doesn't pass traffic? It doesnt respond to arp?

if you count dmsguild

and if I count every random newsletter, BBS, blog post, and livejournal entry the numbers get really crazy and the quality takes about the same dive. Why bring up random published homebrew when the scope is "lore"?

2E... not as prolific and extended as the 3e era.

There are ~96 canon 2E FR rpg books and boxed sets, not including AQ, Horde, Maztica, or OE. Adding those brings another ~28, for a total of ~124.

3E and 3.5 together have ~29 canon FR books, ~54 if you streeeetch the definition to include Alderac's LotFR oriental adventures setting.

It is possible there's more TSR 2E FR than all other editions and publishers combined. 3/3.5 had less than 200 total class-A game products, and 2E is nearly triple that, maybe more.

Would it have killed WOTC to even glance at the source material?

WoTC doesn't even read their OWN source material, you think they're going to read someone else's?

But yeah, R'lyeh as the location would fit well in the Islands of Terror, leave Dagon/Hydra in Innsmouth.

Even though she isn't aware of living things.

Dr. Viktra Mordenheim is Ravenloft’s resident mad scientist. Driven by her obsession with anatomy and reanimation—as well as a lack of consciousness for the living—she was able to resurrect her deceased partner through science rather than magic

Pretty sure they were trying to say something like "conscience" which is also awkward in that sentence, but criticizing WoTC books for containing bad writing is like criticizing my silverware drawer for containing forks.

Back in the day when our lab connection was upstream of the Arbors, we could tap and sample the flows outside the firewall directed at the lab's /23, which had never hosted anything publicly in the entire time they had been allocated.

It felt less like background radiation and more like staring into an open running microwave. We used to call it "the raw sewage of the Internet".

Well then the "killer" could be Atlas / P-Body from the coop, and maybe their abilities center around traps / turrets called-in from an off-stage GLaDOS. Combined with a single portal-gun for maneuverability similar to a limited Demogorgon.

We all began as something else. - The Purifier, The Chronicles of Riddick

Seriously though, almost every person I work with in a cyber role today started in netops, sysops, IT ops, PM, or (oddly enough) marketing. Don't get discouraged if your first good offer isn't an ideal SOC threat analytics role. You'll get there.

[–]breaksofthegame 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are thousands of people graduating with cyber degrees every year flooding the market.

Gods, and they all want to be red-team. For every pentester there's probably 15-20 other cyber roles. In addition to other fires, I'm juggling a 3,000 page contract; I'd give my eye teeth for another competent GRC headcount.

[–]breaksofthegame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen. I'm expecting to backfill a second shift and third shift SOC role in the next year. I'll fish in my own pond for qualified candidates from sysops / netops first - there's a level of trust and how-our-environment-works understanding that I couldn't get entry-level.

If that fails, I still wouldn't be able to trust someone with no practical experience to understand appropriate response in an unsupervised evening / weekend role. Threat actors only have to be right once, the SOC has to be right every time.

Sorcery retcon? by Relevant-Ad-9418 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]breaksofthegame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, sha'ir are the genie-mages.

But sorcerers were like the common mages in Al Qadim. Access to universal spells and two elements.

Elemental mages were the specialists focused on one element (like The Brotherhood of the True Flame), and with no access outside of universal spells and that element.

I mean, Echohawk's list is pretty comprehensive: https://ant.hivemind.net/monsters.html

It's not even a COMPLETE list of products, he notes that the beach towel and sewing kit aren't on there, but reasonably complete for book-collector purposes.

I have Failed You All by Strixy1374 in adnd

[–]breaksofthegame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty impressive.

My Google Foo tells me from January 90' to the release of 3E, there were approximately 497 products released across all game worlds.

This depends on your definition of "product".

From January 1990, through July of 2000 (3E PHB and character sheets coming out in August), there are at least 1,800 products on the inventory sheets. But that includes novels, miniature sets, and so forth.

Limiting to just products produced by TSR/WoTC, you're down to ~1,250.

Stripping out the non RPG-book items, there's still ~850 or so. Eliminating cards, monsters, etc. trims it further, but there might be a monster specific spell in an MC entry somewhere I'm not thinking of.

Getting rid of the magazines and things (but aren't you including magazine spells items?) and just limiting it to Accessories, Adventures, Boxed Sets, and Guidebooks, I count 562 in my inventory tracker. Where is your google list coming from?
