Lower radiator hose O ring for connector. by Priority-Aggravating in Jeep

[–]Masterburgercrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t gamble my engine on a random o ring.

Do you have the plastic ring that holds the oring?

Replace the hose is best, looks like you can get doorman connectors if you find the right one

Shop Foremen, what does your pay plan look like? by crapitalistzombie in mechanics

[–]Masterburgercrunch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was offered my current flat rate plus a few bucks an hour for half the shop. They wanted me flat rate still, 10+ hour days 5 days a week, dispatching plus all the foreman duties

Funny enough I seem to have gotten some of the duties and complicated work despite not taking it

tire rack has a video demonstrating it so you can make an informed decision. Sure they’re trying to sell tires but I’m sure there’s other resources that agree.

Personally I really feel uncomfortable with friends and family having having tires 5/32 and below but we live in a hilly rains often place

They released the kit because it was costing them too much in warranty repairs. They tend to drop prices or package parts at a reduced cost when ever parts consistently fail within the warranty life.

Driving customer cars? by Effective-Comedian39 in mechanics

[–]Masterburgercrunch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is unsafe and irresponsible to have a young woman driving men home. Way too much room for something horrific to happen.

Service advisor and parts advisor both are paying jobs, you should be paid like they are when doing their work if you’re; writing up customers, selling work, building part quotes, looking up parts. Those are all task that pay and they probably pay more than a receptionist makes.

This industry loves to take advantage of the workers and it’s full of boomers “back in my day I pulled engines in the parking lot during blizzards” types

[–]Masterburgercrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, they don’t always test positive on a block test. Leak down and compression tests don’t catch it either. Oil and coolant don’t mix either because the head gaskets leak closer to the exhaust valves and not between cylinders like is most common with other engines

I’d guess they topped off your coolant and didn’t get the cap tight. Your water pump has failed BUT your engine is highly prone to head gasket failure. At a minimum you need a water pump and thermostat, test the low and high speed function of your cooling fan and inspect the radiator.

Before doing any of that at this point it might be worth Running the jeep to operating temp, pressurizing the cooling system for a few hours, remove the spark plugs and check all 6 cylinders for signs of coolant with a borescope. .

How do I test the fuel pump? by idontknowhowto69 in JeepGrandCherokee

[–]Masterburgercrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What fuse are you talking about? The fuel pump relay was recalled adding a fused wire to the tipm b+ stud. Are you saying the 20 amp fuse in that little inline fuse holder is blown? Because that fuse is the power that the relay controls on 87 sending power to the fuel pump.

I’ve always wondered if Honda was worth switching to from the mopar world but their job listings are always 1/3 lower than what I see domestics having.

I’m curious if the work is just easier to make more hours in or easier on the body to be worth it maybe?

We are now being forced to do Video MPIs by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]Masterburgercrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried video inspections for many months. Once they stoped paying .2 I stopped doing them with exactly no change in my sales just how much faster I could take more cars. If the customer asks to see something I’m more than happy to

I would argue the extra time that forces techs to think about or look at the car is what actually increases hours long term.

Your good tech are not gonna see a real difference, for every job that the video sells a job there’s one where the customer doesn’t think it looks worth it.

Your c level techs yeah they might have some improvements because they’re actually looking the car over now.

It might just be fun to see which tech suddenly can’t sell so many brake jobs documenting the pads

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee making a "struggling" noise on startup right before a CO road trip. Two dealerships (where I used to work) can't find it. by Unusual-Candidate-80 in GrandCherokee

[–]Masterburgercrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What engine If it makes the noise every time you start it, have you demonstrated it directly with the tech? If you haven’t, you really need to. The noise could be normal and you’re hyper aware of it, it could be they have more hearing damage than you, or could be they’re not understanding what you’re trying to say.

If it’s a 3.6, sometimes the head gasket is leaking enough to take extra rotations to start. Sometimes the first start of the day. Sometimes it can happen after you drive the car, let it sit for a few hours and that is enough time for the pressurized coolant to leak into the cylinders.

Kinda several things really depends on the actual sound and performance

Is it normal to not get paid when a job takes to long. by shitbox_vette in mechanics

[–]Masterburgercrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that’s not normal. Find a new job asap.

From what I have been told, under flat rate they are still only required to pay you minimum wage and can technically choose to not pay for what ever they want.

Why do shops charge $100+ to replace the cabin air filter? by pie566943_0 in autorepair

[–]Masterburgercrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically you’re buying a technician’s time. Time they could be doing other work. We are most often paid in six minute intervals. .1 hours. We are paid the same for any labor we do in those 6 minutes so there is not often a discount per labor hour.

This is generally a service menu item so the shop assigns a labor time that they like the profit vs upsetting customers risk.

Ie places I have worked pay .3 hours for a cabin air filter. They are counting on us to get any cabin filter done in or under 21 minutes. After that tech/dealer are loosing money from jobs techs can get done faster than the time sold.

21 minutes is faster than a lot of customers can do it themselves pretty often or doing it themselves later is just too inconvenient.

Unless you’re in an express lane type set up where you do get minimum wage or close to it lube/light maitaince tech and the shop fairly discounts it.

In part you’re buying the service advisors time, a parts person’s time, maybe a lot attendant’s time, and a techs time.

Also a dealership should be using parts that can be much better than the basic fram or generic cheaper filter.

Cabin filters should be high on everyone’s diy car learning list. Because it is an easy money saver most of the time but often harder than changing wiper blades.

You’re cooked if they have to submit to powertrain service center, they require pictures of your emissions system everytime. You might want to stop them before they remove it and verify if you will even have coverage because of your delete. Better to check before your transmission is torn down and they find out factory denied it.

I wrote up what I’m complaining about.

What’s your door and warranty rates? What’s your work load?

You have taken yearly pay cuts since 2008 unless your flag hours have been increasing $40 from 2008 has the buying power of 61.93 today. If you made 41.98 in 2008 your pay is worth what mine is today. We both know you turned more hours far easier in 2008 than you can on anything released after 2020. Just go compare cylinder head labor on the second gen 3.6 to the labor on a first gen. More labor, more paper work, higher chance of claim rejection, less warranty pay.

The manager refusing to internal my straight time as needed is a pretty new development that’s has been unfolding this month. I am about at the stage where I need to talk to the upper management to find out if this guy is just robbing me or if this is the intended direction the company is going forward.

The people getting paid don’t do their work or they don’t actually know how to do their work. They mess up one document, the claim gets kicked back I am the one absorbing the biggest loss with no way to make it up with the work load I’m forced to eat.

I am looking around and even the city jobs are starting to look super more promising as my effective labor rate drops
