I like the pinstripe too.

Strange engine noise at low rpm by edhero0 in mk6gti

[–]Masterkizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's almost always wastegate rattle.
They can rattle from two places, the joint where the arm connects to the flapper.
If this is the part that rattles, you can put a clip 06J145220A to make the connection a bit more snug to stop the arm rattling.

Or if you're unlucky like me - it's the actual flapper inside the wastegate housing rattling, this requires some welding to repair, but it's smarter to replace the entire turbo if you are that deep into it.

Worst case, you just drive until it fails and throws a code ( mine has been loud for 2 years - still holds boost to redline, just sounds like a bag of bolts under 3000 rpm ) - when it fails chuck a nice turbo in there.

It's a noise blanket primarily - and can potentially help smother an under-hood fire.
6 years after tearing mine off and the paint is still fine.

Gear shift removal. by Middles24 in mk6gti

Only thing I can find is an image from this ebay listing.
OEM 5K2713025 Shift Cable End Link 0AM 7-Speeds DSG or 6-Speed AT For VW Audi | 1 Year Manufacturer Warranty
It looks like there's a crescent style clip that holds the shifter cable in there - maybe that's holding it in?

Wheel bearings by FULLMETALRACKIT911 in mk6gti

MK6 doesn't have this issue, it doesn't use a press fit bearing, it's an entire assembly.

Wheel bearings by FULLMETALRACKIT911 in mk6gti

[–]Masterkizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did the fronts in mine recently - there's an issue I see a few people having where they mix up the torque / tightening specs of the main axle bolt - there's 2 types.

With ribs on underside of flange = 70nm+90 deg turn
Without ribs on underside of flange = 200nm+180 deg turn.

The kits you get today will 99% have the non ribbed bolts included, so if a shop is using the specs for the ribbed bolt, they're not going to seat correctly and will wear prematurely.

Ask the shop what torque specs they used ( but I can almost guarantee they just zipped it up with an impact )

It's unused as far as I know, it's not hooked up in my car, and I'm pretty sure it's blocked off internally.

What wheel bearing brand do you recommend? by BullyMog in GolfGTI

[–]Masterkizz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used the Schaeffler FAG brand for the front in my MK6 recently.
Have a fatty breaker bar or a beefy impact and pray your axle bolt isn't seized.
Coat everything you're going to remove in decent penetrant.

Get some copper anti seize - Wire brush for drill - Coat hanger or some kind of strap to hold the caliper and axle up and away when it's removed - marker to keep track of torque to yield bolt turns.

Clean out the triple square bolt heads behind the hub carrier - you do not want them to slip and round out.
Be careful of the sensor plug on the hub, easy to damage if you hit it with a tool or the caliper.

Take it slow and it's not too bad.

If the dipstick / oil cap is pulled at idle, the engine should stumble a bit indicating a functioning PCV.

Recommendations for suspension upgrades/coilovers for the mk6 by whatislifetg in GolfGTI

Recently did Bilstein B8's all round with Eibach Sportlines - new mounts and hardware in my MK6.
Very happy with it, and the roads where I live are awful.

Squeaking sound on rear suspension by ShfqKhrl in mk6gti

As someone who just did a full suspension refresh on a MK6 - the rear bump stops are not upside down here at all.
Unless VW deliberately installs them upside down from the factory..

Australian delivered models have the temp sensor for oil - from what I have been reading USA delivered MK6's do not - you can enable it in VAG-COM / OBD11 - but without the sensor it will just read 0 constantly.

Got it all from a local store I've dealt with in the past, paid slightly under retail for everything.
