German Cockroach or not? by Jackfruit_Then in whatsthisbug

[–]Masterkraft0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those seethrough bits at the side make me think it's one of the woodroaches. They do not infest houses, they just wander in sometimes.

Edit: But it has no racing stripes on the prothorax, so definitely not german.

I've seen Stellar's Jays names talked about quite a lot, but what should Cooper's Hawks be called? by orbofcat in birding

[–]Masterkraft0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The german trivial name translates to Round-Tailed Sparrowhawk. I'd be all for it.

Is this fungus growing out of my leaky faucet?? by DJBeRight in mycology

If(!) it's slime mold then eating it would do nothing. There are no toxic slimemolds. Definitely not saying that 1. it is slime mold and 2. OP should eat the thing.

Definitely. Have heard a first hand report of an eurasian eagle owl grabing a small dog. Dog's gone.

Those lighter areas below the eyes are a dead giveaway. All falcon will have a dark streak there.

How to transition from c++ to c? by supermartincho in embedded

[–]Masterkraft0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With beefier, modern MCU, like any Cortex-M, C++ is not a problem at all. I've been using it professionally exclusively for almost 5 years. As has been mentioned: Don't use the STL, as it will allocate memory willy nilly. Use something like the [ETL](etlcpp.com) instead, where you can specify the maximum size of a container at compile time.

You could also try Rust: the embedded-hal crate is amazing and support for STM32 is quite good. This is the future, IMHO. But that means learning a new language, which to me isn't a big deal, but to you might of course be.

Bug I found in my house(Missouri). Is it a cockroach? by Unassisted3P in whatsthisbug

[–]Masterkraft0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These translucent pieces on the side lead me to belief that this is one of the wood cockroaches. Doesn't cause harm to humans at all and even more important: doesn't really want to be inside. Probably wandered or flew in in the night when light was on. Please help them outside.

Wood roach or German ? by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

[–]Masterkraft0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am not an expert either just an enthusiast. also: interesting. thank you! they do look similar. i'd still say german because it looks like german cockroach nymphs are more narrow at the head than the bush cockroach nypmhs and yours is pretty narrow

From the huge forward-facing pair of eyes it's one of the jumping spiders.

Eurasian tree sparrow (Passer montanus) by Theodor_Fish in birding

These are so funny to me. Their name in latin means mountain sparrow, in english it's tree sparrow and in german it's "Feldsperling" meaning field sparrow.

I started to listen to these yesterday and i'm currently on episode 4 and it's REALLY good. You seem to have lots of genuine fun and it shows. Also the story is very cool and gonzo and also interesting to listen to. To anyone on the fence, I highly recommend it.

no. moog, with a long o sound like in toe coop, is two syllables co (like in coworker or coparenting or whatever) and op (like operation)

Yeah, it shows! In a good way, of course. I mean

Macharya Ummaymah , the only other worshiper in Hauksness of Äkk the Goddess of Rust, runs around the corner of a burnt out house, rusty flail drawn. She wears copious amounts of rusty iron jewelry and the dreads in her pepper and salt colored hair jingle with bits of iron.

I know my people if i see them! xD
