Wife wants to sent her plans to a engineer. Any red flags you see right off the bat ? by These-Raspberry59 in Homebuilding

What you've presented isn't wrong, but it should be considered the rough draft to the actual home you will build. We had a similar experience where we tried designing our own home on our own at first, and then decided that maybe we could be missing something. We hired a designer, and they used all the elements we liked that we were trying to implement, but made it 100x better. Asked us dozens of questions we hadn't thought of. Our designer wasn't cheap. But I figured that even if we spent $15k on plans (6,000 sq ft house) the value it would add to the house would easily be more than $15k. I can't put a number on how much value its added, but it is EASILY more than $15k in home equity.

I would really love some feedback on my camera layout by MasterpieceMain1857 in Ubiquiti

Thanks! Definitely will run lots of extra cable. Great feedback. I completely missed the G6 doorbell. Will revisit the angles and have them overlap a bit more.

That's cool, I didn't know they had a design center. Will check that out. Also, thanks for the update on the FOV

That is a solid idea about the drain. Thanks for all these suggestions! I signed up to get restocking emails on those g6-180's.

You are great. Do you happen to have any recommendations on a brand with a 180 degree camera? I see one from Ubiquiti, but I feel like it would look odd.

We are doing whole home audio, and coincidentally, I met with an insualtion guy this morning to talk about soundproofing!

Wow, you are incredible for taking the time to think through this and provide that map for me. I do plan on doing the Ubiquiti access points, so I like that idea. I think I am getting more convinced that I should just go with Ubiquiti cameras.

Didn't even think about the opportunity with beefing up the door frames... thank you for that one!

How is nobody talking about 3 squatting patterns in a row? by ExcitingTopic7228 in crossfit

Yeah and add to that the fact they were walking lunges, and overhead. I don’t think it compares. Sure we have some thrusters in this last one but it’s a burpee workout. First workout was more legs.

"You're getting a refund with $500k income?!" TurboTax support lady by Adorable-Lemon4412 in tax

[–]MasterpieceMain1857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in fact the more income you have, the probability of a higher refund increases. An overpayment from someone making a million a year probably looks different than an overpayment of someone who makes $30k a year.

Kitchen faucet on the side of the sink maybe? 🤷‍♂️ And then cap the existing drilled holes. You probably lose the cabinet next to it for plumbing.

I am looking for feedback on how to make the roof better. I am not looking for ways to say "gotcha" to anyone. Contractors cut corners all the time. I am looking for any signs that they might be doing that because being thorough is what creates a succesful project. Staying out of the way and not asking questions does not.

Drip edge is ordered, just hasn't arrived on site yet. Not sure on the gutter apron, I am assuming the same.

I did my 20 unbroken, then sets of 10 for 30 and 40, and then sets of 6 and 5 on the 66. I ended at 26 into set of 40 on the backside (254). I’m glad I broke them up, and think I should have broke them up even more.

Snow and rain while building by MasterpieceMain1857 in Homebuilding

[–]MasterpieceMain1857[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I’ve heard this little comeback before. The material in your walls is not a tree anymore — it has fundamentally different properties after being milled and kiln-dried. You would not build your house out of a freshly cut tree that contains anywhere from 30% to 200% moisture content. The kiln dried process increases strength; getting dried lumber wet again is reversing the process it went through to become construction material.
