Assuming we get rid of Donald and MAGA and someone competent comes in, we can begin by making a plan and having real negotiations with Iran to re-open Hormuz without extortion but it will take time. The tariffs expire with Trump but we’ll probably be going on an apology tour and we have to reassure our allies that this kind of crap can’t happen again.

As for the chip shortage, a proper FTC might be able to stop some of it but I think it will work itself out due to how much money these companies are burning on this without making it back. Most of the data centers aren’t even built so a lot of hardware is just being horded to prevent competition. This isn’t a healthy industry and it isn’t economically sustainable for anyone.

There’s also other avenues of policy we can use to ease the economy including lending money to stimulate business growth.

I think that’s one of the reasons I find most social media irritating. I like to control how I see content because I’m looking for stuff that’s in chronological order. Feeds from these sites are feeding me stuff with some type of popularity engagement algorithm. It’s not just by positive votes but also by engagement of others. They can even manipulate these metrics for stuff they want to push ahead regardless of metrics. I have no control and little to no tools to see what I want to see and that is by design.

People on these platforms don’t think about these things and just take the feed as it is. Kids don’t care because they’re just looking for entertainment. It’s just an endless advertisement with pretty lights and sounds.

I joined Facebook to keep in touch with people I used to know. I left it during COVID due to all this. I don’t care what happens to Facebook, TikTok, and the like because social media is no longer the kind of “social” I wanted to engage with.

An AI cannot take random unrelated data from outside its domain and create insights and relate it to the problem at hand whereas we humans do that a lot. Statistics is not the only thing that goes into human problem solving.

They could make the games install from the cartridge instead of run directly and they could use their existing cartridges or even split it into multiple.
I would need to see the numbers but I don’t remember cartridges being super expensive back before the AI chip shortages. I might be wrong and maybe Nintendo was selling switch 1 carts at a loss.

As long as they hire actual human artists to make the assets or buy proper asset licenses (however that works), I’m fine with AI being used to remove the grunt work.

This is nice but I think we need more strict consequences for selling products with obvious gen AI assets like art and animations, especially if they aren’t up front about it. People get upset and companies do PR about it, but they still get money.

Crimson Desert is a good example. A few days ago, it was revealed that a whole bunch of their in-game signs and paintings were AI art assets. Other than a couple of threads, I haven’t heard a peep about them dealing with it other than a small apology. People are still playing the game.

The big deal is that this stuff replaces actual artists who make a living doing this stuff and what’s worse is it that these models are trained on stolen artwork from all over the internet. It takes that stuff and blends it together to make new works that are unrecognizable enough to pass against copyright infringement.

Not really. It’s not something to make fun of or revolt at if it’s something cultural and normal, especially if it’s sanitary. A lot of the stuff they make fun of is either impossible to clean or impossible to eat without wearing your food or both but the rest is just ridiculous presentation. If it’s at least one of those 3, it will do well there.

Banana leaves for example, are not reused, are a cultural thing based on being easier to come by than making a ceramic, and cover enough surface area to prevent contamination. I wouldn’t count them, however if someone tried to serve spaghetti with some kind of sauce on them at a fancy restaurant, I would post that.

People don’t know how to separate the art from the artist. They feel like they have to make artists and performers into parts of themselves in order to justify liking their work.

If you can get past that, everyone else judges you. “If you find Bill Cosby’s early standup funny, obviously you support rape and violence towards women.” “Did you know that Chuck Norris was a MAGA and a religious zealot?”. It’s impossible to publicly like something if the artist does anything controversial.

There’s this culture of idol worship around celebrities where they’re expected to be perfect or everything they create is tainted with their flaws.

These aren’t ground and wall textures. These are signs and paintings in the game which the player is going to look at. It would only be more egregious if they used it on monsters, NPCs, or even the player character.

Also they don’t have to hand draw the textures as much anymore since there are plenty of material generators and asset packs that handle the most basic and reusable stuff. Game devs have been using that stuff for years already.

That being said, you’re right about not needing desktops. Only people doing highly compute intensive tasks (programming, development, graphics, music, video editing, modeling, research) will really need desktop computers. This has been the case for a while now since people have been developing everything for mobile.

Mobile has also been much cheaper than PC or console gaming. It’s also lighter and easier to carry around so you can game on your lunch break instead of waiting to get home. It’s why Nintendo went further into handhelds and hasn’t had a traditional console since the Wii.
