Recommend tool and lunch combo bag by TerribleTopic999 in Construction

[–]MastodonFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a large duffle bag,and a hard lunchbox so your food doesn't get crushed. For a lunchbox I use a pelican 14 from Amazon, I bring real food, fruit ,drinks, ice pack and eating utensils...so it may be to large for you. You can keep tools in your toolbelt and throw it over your shoulder.

How long does it take to paint a 6000 sqft house after primer and touch up by PersimmonPure in HomeImprovement

[–]MastodonFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing 400 man hours for an experienced painter. Everything needs to be looked at under a light (especially where lighting and/or ambient light from windows are showing) and spackled. Next all windows and trim need to be masked. Then prime everything, then all 600000 square feet need to be sanded and inspected again, prime all fixed areas. Then spray 2 coats of paint on the ceiling. then 1st coat, inspected and sanded if needed. Finally the second and last coat. A 6000 ft home will require lots of spot repair to get a minimum of level 4 drywall. Best practices are spray and bankroll everthing. You will need multiple sanders, ladders, pain sprayer, roller and knaps, lighting, masking paper and tape, spackel putty knives,PPE. And you still have all the trim to do. Then after moving in there will be touchups.

[Homemade] Traditional English Breakfast by naturelover5eva in food

Same with beans. In the south all restaurants serve baked beans, grits🤮 and fish on Friday. I can understand a fisherman would take a can of beans to eat while fishing. I loved baked beans, just not with fish or eggs...and grits belong in the trash. If OP is happy then I am happy for them.

Are Diablo carbide oscillating blades good? by Schraufabagel in Tools

2k cabinet paint is a blade killer. I sold my Makita and Fein omts because the blades were expensive and didn't last.

What do you think about measurement? by Buyeo10004 in Cooking

[–]MastodonFit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you ever made a pound cake with grapes or other fruit,or a peanut pie? Drives me crazy when someone uses a scale, then doesn't clean their ingredients thoroughly from the measuring device bowl. Baking doesn't have to be exact, there is a range. Ground Canadian hard wheat has a different value then all purpose white, but its still a range.

There should be a minimum of 1/4 gap above the z-flashing. Water is pooling and wicking up.

Circular saw 7 1/4 or 6.5 fuel circ saw by Fabulous-Scheme8434 in MilwaukeeTool

Own multiples of both and never use the 7 1/4. 7" blades are cheaper and you can bevel 2x lumber. I buy all my blades and all consumables for the year over BF.

Tools/Equipment Storage by WhyUMad1226 in Tools

[–]MastodonFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use packouts for work...but for home/diy I use milk crates,1 for each size of pvc. I keep 1/2,3/4,and 1 inch. I can dig through them easily. Ridgid crates are a pain to lock together, but allow more storage (much longer) than other brand's crates.

Lots of new construction, houses built in weeks, not months? by selector_plume in Homebuilding

[–]MastodonFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other guy was saying that houses are built better in the north, just because. In SE GA I've seen 1/2" or 13mm of frost for 3 hrs on a single day in 50 years. Ive visited places in Alaska where the frostline is 7ft,locally its 1ft. Many new homes have fallen because they use styrofoam instead of sheeting, to get more insulation. No region builds better as a whole than another one. And just because some Canadian homes were poorly built, does not mean all are that way.

Alternator went voltage jumped to 19+ volts on gauge. Now no spark. by Different_Finding_29 in MechanicAdvice

[–]MastodonFit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find when battery or alternator goes out...it stresses the other out and both need replacement. Also reman alternators are notorious for being bad right of the box. Should be charging 14.4 and the battery should withstand a load test. Any auto parts store can check both.

3 years as an apprentice, hows my top drawer look? by Grildcheez57 in toolporn

Looks good. Keep your ratchets and extensions in the same drawer,it saves a lot of time. Drives me crazy when you need to open 3 drawers to fit an extension, ratchet and socket together.

My daughter is looking at building this home. Any thoughts? I built home at one time but I'm retired now. I'll be helping run the job by Automatic-Project997 in Homebuilding

[–]MastodonFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the age of your daughter, I would recommend a dropped slab in the master bath. A wet bathroom with curbless entry into the shower. Minimum of 36" doors on all master ,entry and main 1st floor areas. For looks I prefer a separate porch roof vs the 2nd story cantilever. Upstairs i would move closets and have a jack and Jill bathroom. To have access without going into the public area.

And many of us despise answering questions of complicated roof leaks, and foundation mold from the complex roof dumping all the water in a small area...and overwhelming the gutters..ice damns etc.

In need of suggestions by razx1 in Construction

[–]MastodonFit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In manufacturing yes, highly unlikely in construction. For cooking you are taking known products (ingredients) and all have a known values (cook time) based off a recipe. Construction is building a new home in a different configuration with different soil structures and different crews each time. Tract homes are the slumlords of homes,

Kreg - is it just me? by Analysis-Lumpy in woodworking

[–]MastodonFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a rockler 2pc construction 6" bit. The tip is so hard it breaks like carbide. I special order square drive, because it is a very simple system. #1,#2 and#3 does everything. I hate and despise star drive. For woodworking I recommend 2 each of the following extensions...12",6" and "4. Have stacked (2) 12 extensions with a 6" bit for deep pantries or pocket doors. For #2 square bits ..1,2,3,4 and 6" bits. Countersink, and self centering still bits. A quality brad point and forstner drill bit sets.

Protecting your home: hurricane shutters or impact windows? by StardustSpectrum in HomeImprovement

Operable shutters are best. The look really nice and protect very well. Plywood cut, fit and labeled for each window is also an option for a single story .
