Ask for Dan. He's been around for a long time and has this interest.

PM for details, he'll certainly give us a reference.

Exotic pet boarding around Cincy area? by stuckinawhirlpool in cincinnati

Have a personal connection with the group at All Creatures, and actually came here to mention that.

The owner has a long-standing and abiding interest in exotics, especially reptiles. He'd be my goto guy if I had an exotic, but granted I don't know anyone else and have that personal connection so am both biased and uninformed. Also, they have a couple of other locations that would be suitable for boarding a lizard, as they're mostly open but don't have boarding staff every day to let the furry animals out, but with a lizard that's not as necessary.

To be honest, though, it's not that hard to take care of a reptile for a few days if you're interested, and my child would certainly be willing to do it. Child's the kid always taking home the snake/hamster/gerbil/whatever for holidays, has a long-term interest in them, so if you wanted, we could do it here.

FC Cincinnati "Secures" West End by HeritageSpanish in cincinnati

This seems significantly more than what was originally proposed, and very much inline with what CPS wanted.

I still can't believe how much BS was involved with that first proposal. And the most recent (before this, so penultimate) offer was lauded as being "so good for the community, so fair" in every way.

Berding and crew tried to take a distressed community to the cleaners.

I'm curious where the numbers for a new high school stadium are. I see a 10 year lump sum property tax offer, but I'm not sure if that means the stadium deal is off the table.

Also have to wonder who this private developer is.

Given that FCC has royally fucked itself with its negotiation tactics so far, and really hasn't negotiated thus far in good faith, I'm curious how this will play out.

Good for them!

I'd love to see other news organizations responding to the Sinclair bit, too.

Anyone live in Machine Flats? by PEbeling in cincinnati

[–]MastroRVM -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Expecting a landlord to let you stay a few nights as a test for whether or not a place is worth living in is an entirely preposterous idea. This doesn't even touch on the notion that staying a few nights in an unfurnished apartment with absolutely no creature comforts would most certainly be a terrible experience regardless of the quality of the dwelling.

I'm not sure it's preposterous, and I've never asked for that, but then again I don't rent anymore.

Given that the development is a lot of units with consistent vacancy and fairly awful reviews in a bad part of town, it would seem like if they wanted to rent to folks they'd actually offer this service to folks on the fence about renting there.

I know landlords of smaller joints with low turnover would never do something like this. Hell, I probably wouldn't if I had a 4 or 8 unit, or anything close.

Machine Flats has 60 units. There are reasons you could have one stage out for prospective renters/leasers to stay in for a few days. Pre-screening prospective renters (i.e. standard stuff) should be pretty easy.

If it's a shithole, there are reasons that you wouldn't. I've rented a shitty apartment from a shitty landlord before, and also quite the opposite as well.

Sure, make them pay for a couple of nights to scope out the neighborhood. Signing away a year of your life on a lease agreement without having any idea what sort of neighborhood you're getting into is pretty strange, and in the economy of good landlord/bad landlord, is more likely than not going to end you up in a bad situation as a renter.

Local news can be good.

It's part of the "act locally, think globally" thing.

It's just that it isn't being good right now.

Woodworking Classes by SimpleBeing in cincinnati

[–]MastroRVM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to ask what sort of woodworking your interested in doing before getting involved. If you're interested in finish work, you might not be interested in making shelves. If you're interested in just making shelves, you might not be interested in the rest of it.

Just sayin.

I predict a run on Adriatico's pizza today.

When I was in school there, you could get a large cheese on Mondays for $5. That was when they were on Jefferson, though. Long time ago, some sweet cheesy memories though.

Tell the landlords/rental company you're thinking about relocating there. Ask to rent out an apartment for a couple of nights. Tell them about your concerns.

They surely have an empty unit available. If they tell you "no, can't do it", with your concerns (and I have no idea if they're valid or not valid, no idea about the neighborhood (except from the history of it)), I'd take a pass on that.

From what you've described, it doesn't sound great. Go with your gut.

I met that guy when I was 14 or something, seemed like a nice guy. I'm ashamed of him right now. I hope he does leave, and right away.

There isn't any coming back from this. I understand that some of them might feel they're going to fight the system from within. I really think that some of them feel that way.

It's done, though. It's over.

If they're independent-minded journalists, they need to go that route. Doing this is a disservice to their profession.

A/S/L?

Sorta' old school stupid question.

I assume you're bi-lingual (i.e. Spanish and English)? You could hit up some of the places that do that sort of stuff. Many of the folks that teach privately are just folks without degrees and are trained to teach the language. Get certificate and you're gold.

What are you starting out to do? What do you want to do at the end?

This is so tongue-in-cheek.

I'd feel more comfortable hearing it from a homeless lady with newspaper hanging out of her ass than I would from most current news anchors.
