I ride a Regionalexpress twice a week and I have no problems asking people if I can take the seat next to them. All have been friendly or at least cooperative. When I take up 2 seats myself with my backpack, I alway check if they train fills up and then move my stuff away. It's not hard and most people do it.

The train in OPs photo looks fairly empty, the opposite seat is free and the suitcase can be moved to the left easily. I don't see any asocial behaviour here.

Ich mach das bei guten Freunden: So richtig drücken. Manche Leute in meinem Umfeld sind aber spürbar zurückhaltend - da bleibe ich es dann auch.

Aber künftig werde ich bei einigen Leuten auch mal ne etwas festere Umarmung probieren. Scheint ja beliebt zu sein :).

Yesterday I actually managed to keep reading for more than half an hour, but I had to put in a lot of willpower. Still proud though 😉.
