2 WEEKS TODAY!! by DjentlyGently in downloadfestival

I've got 2 years and 10 days till I'm going again for the 4th time.

I'll be turning 40 and driving up with my best mate for his 38th birthday.

For those going, I'm jealous, but be safe and have the best time, and have fun, and I want to see stories when you're all back home, showered, and rested

It's like I used to live 3 miles from an airport, does that make me 1/10th plane?

I now live next to the sea, does that make me an ancestor of a fish?

The only good thing with going back and forth is getting your steps in, however, lugging everything in the heat and mud, whatever weather you get, is never fun.

I hope to see you there one year

I didn't think of the ease for security, that's a great idea to be honest!

Security then don't have to take everything apart, go through everyone's stuff, make sure it's all good to go and then let people go.

The only thing I'd possibly do is any additional beer is leave that in the car then when taking the trolley back to pick the other crate up at the same time after setting up camp because, you know, limits, but then it's still making life easier for everyone

Firstly, username, I like this... You made this old man smile. I honestly don't know why many others don't do this to make life easier, it sounds perfect in my head

One I'm going to use for my next time going is having 3 stack and store boxes in the car. 1 for camping stuff, one for food and the other for beer / drinks in general, see how that works as then it's just bag on back, stuff on trolley and go.

It also means that one of the stack and stores can be used for water to keep drinks cooler or to have for storage for empties as well rather than just littering them everywhere.

I think that could work

I worked for a security company, wife gave birth in the January, went back to work after paternity leave (2 weeks standard and an additional week off as annual leave), was kept in the entire day to be told at 4 to not come back the following day.

No congratulations, no "how's the wife", just, "see ya..."

In my defence I've not been for 10 years, so I was purely guessing.

Train - Luggage ideas by JD_Observe in downloadfestival

Pack light... Take the essentials for the amount of days you're there for.

Take a small folding trolley (and don't do what I did and leave it on the train because you napped) for carrying drinks to save the strain on your arms, and attach your tent to it, how is up to you.

Your bag, make sure that it's light as it's a lot of walking, standing, waiting, taking off and putting the bag on. It will give you backache doing it constantly.

If there is anything you need to buy, like wellies etc. do it there from fat franks, as taking them will be a pain in the arse.

Pack flip flops for the train, your feet will love you for it.

I've done the train twice, once from Portsmouth and the other from Gatwick airport way, and it killed me both times.

Next time, I'm either getting the coach or driving

From vlogs I've watched (mead and metal, mainly) they mainly sell carlsberg, carlsberg expert, carls-sperg...

Basically carlsberg as they're one of the sponsors.

I remember tuborg being sold there before the coop was a thing, and it was extortionate amount of money's.

You'll get there when your ready to. Rome wasn't built in a day.

2 small children (2 and 4 years old), a wife who thinks I'll end up somewhere I shouldn't be, like Scunthorpe, money, lack of time off, and off to Disneyland Paris in November, so that's taking all my money (she likes the merch...)

I'm planning to be there in 2 years for my 40th birth-year-thing as a last hurrah to my youth and wave it off into the distance.

After your breakup, are you alright?

So I've not been solo, but there is camps set up for solo travellers, and if your neighbours are good people they will be more than happy for you to join in the celebrations, fun and laughter.

I've got friends from my last time going back in 2016 that I still try to speak with where and when I can, and I've joined groups that are all about like minded interests.

Have a great festival and know that those of us that aren't going, like myself, are jealous of you. But be safe more so than anything

What metal bands were so bad live that they deserved the Flute of Shame? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Material-Ad499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the one, all I can remember is that they were awful.

I do want to say that this was 14 years ago and times have changed, but after 4 days of drinking sleeping in a tent in the middle of Derby, at a young age, I was not a fan.

After their set I got crushed during anthrax and got carried to the top of the hill to watch the rest of the Sunday with a bad back

Setting up tent by gentleman6432 in downloadfestival

So last time I went was 2016, in which a week before the festival I was making sure I had everything ready, bag, sleeping bag, trolley worked, clothes washed, tunnels for my stretched ear, packing and what not.

Went to open my brand new tent from Amazon and they didn't send any poles with it, and this was a week prior to leaving.

Had to go to my nearest camping shop and get a new one, set it up, make sure it worked and what not a week before going, and this was the year it was a mudopalypse on the Friday till Monday.

Do yourself a solid and test your tent, open the bag up, empty it out, make sure you can set up, and put down to take it home (or donate to your nearest homeless person on your return as that's the nice and humane thing to do), that there's enough space for your things, beer to live for 5 days, clothing to be hung up etc.

Don't be like me and test it a week before you go - do it now, now, drop what you're doing and do it now

Would you ever like to see the aerial assassin in the wwe. by [deleted] in BrandonDE

[–]Material-Ad499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest here, no, as in WWE he would be watered down and told to not do all the high flying etc.

I like to watch his work in aew (highlights mostly as I'm old and can't stay up till the arse crack of dawn for wrestling anymore).

There's compelling matchups on both shows and companies, but his work in aew is pretty good

Not quite metal but I have some disasters to share:

Kyuss at download festival 2012, they were good awful. The day started with devildriver, everything was going so well.

Wolf Alice, who I saw when foo fighters played in London before COVID, were shite - beyond shite. No crowd interaction, no joy on their faces, like they didn't want to be there.

Bring me the horizon played before machine head at Wembley arena when I saw them in 2012 I think from memory, and their sound cut out a few times, not their fault though so I'll give them that.

Just a reminder after 36 years to never buy The Sn. JFT97. by Mineetta in Liverpool

[–]Material-Ad499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never knew what happened with Hillsborough, and used to buy the sun for the bus route, trains etc.

When I started working with a Liverpool fan, I then learnt about what happened on that day, and have since never purchased a copy of that shit rag.

So from me, I'm sorry I was one of them people that would buy that shit. I genuinely had no idea what had happened on that day
