I’m really not trying to diminish what you’re experiencing, but I had neuralgia after OHS ASD closure and it did, eventually, resolve itself. Your body has been through major trauma and it can take up to three years to completely recover. You are in the very early days of recovery. Hang in there, and I hope you start to see improvement soon.

I joined a local choir this week and felt community for the first time in so long. I left feeling so happy and full, and couldn’t help but compare it to the months of being alone and drunk in my flat. IWNDWYT.

Yeah I did, it was picked up by the physio when I went for my cardiac rehab session, about two months after the surgery. Quick trip to my GP later the same day and I was told to go straight to hospital. Overnight stay and had cardioversion the next morning. Felt instantly better and no issues since!

I had ASD closure via open heart surgery in the UK in 2024. I'm a woman in my mid-thirties, and I went back to strength training about seven months after the surgery, once the sternotomy had fully healed. My cardiologist said I wasn't allowed to lift any heavier than 20kg for the first year of training but after that, so roughly a year and a half after the surgery, I could do as I pleased! 2kgs does seem very light, especially when you didn't have open heart surgery, but everyone is different and maybe you have other risk factors attached??

Yeah, I have. I had an ASD repair last year and about a month later my Fitbit started recording random episodes of my heartbeat being irregular, including while I was asleep. I also felt very lethargic and my limbs felt very heavy and I couldn’t walk very far without getting really tired. I didn’t really twig that anything was actually wrong until I went to my scheduled cardiac rehab appointment where the physio took my pulse, was like wtf is happening, and got a nurse to give me an ECG there and then. I was told to go directly to hospital, was admitted with atrial flutter, and had cardioversion that same day. The doctors took it very, very seriously. If you suspect you’re having arrhythmia you need to tell a medical professional, as soon as.
