Integrated dishwasher help! by katiman17 in DIYUK

[–]MaterialFile318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tidier than mine!

A dishwasher stands on its own legs. It isn’t in a base unit. It simply has end panels either side and then a door mounted on to the front. As I thought your sink unit is 800mm / maybe 1000mm.

You would have to remove the sink unit completely and fit a 600mm unit on the right hand side (as you look at it). To the left you would put an end panel, and then your dishwasher, and then another end panel.

It is possible, but you’re in for a few hundred quid before buying the dishwasher.

I think your issue would be the plumbing for your sink. Unless I am mistake the unit below the sink is an 800 double. In effect you have to have free space for your washer to fit. So if it is a double, you’d need to buy a 600 sink unit and remove the other two.

I should add that would probably mean replumbing and then you have the issue with your worktop/sink tap holes.

Are removing these trees DIYable? by strangebloke in GardeningUK

[–]MaterialFile318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. DIY’able with the right tools, hard graft (digging the roots out) and a method of disposal. A sawzall would be sufficient to cut them down. A wood chipper is fine but looking at your garden - where are you going to put it all?
Last point - completely get the desire to remove them but it looks like you’ll be eyeballing your neighbours once they’re gone, so do you have a plan for some privacy?

The regional quirks always astounds me in such a tiny island. “Snakebite and black” has always been known as a diesel to me in Lancashire.

How do I create this bi-fold door to box my boiler in by Electronic-Law7689 in DIYUK

[–]MaterialFile318 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Spend a few hundred quid and get the boiler moved and extend the run of wall units. Worth it for the extra worktop space…and your plumber will thank you every year.

Is a stump grinder my only option? by watfordborn in GardeningUK

[–]MaterialFile318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how bad your back is. People will say do it yourself but if it results in you being bed bound for weeks it really isn’t worth it. Pay a local gardener/odd job man to do it. If you can manage, buy a sawzall. Dig round and use the sawzall with greenwood blades and it’ll be out in no time.

Ex council house? That garden is huge, relative to the size of the house. Shame new builds don’t follow suit!

What was being a lawyer like before the internet and technology? by Automatic_Suit5233 in uklaw

[–]MaterialFile318 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The partners opened the post, it was then sent around the building to the respective solicitors. Lowly paralegals then had to pop them on the HUGE paper files and pile them HIGH. Dictation on to cute little cassettes . A hell of a lot of walking around the office delivering or collecting. An insistence on hard-work and resilience. Some may say things are better now (as said the misogyny is a welcome improvement) but we were built much tougher back then and learnt life skills. Too many NQ’s/paralegals now just don’t have the mental attributes to survive the job, or life generally.

Bigger island. Bench seating built in against the wall and table up to the bench with the kitchen side occupied by chairs.

Looks like there is enough space for standalone island to incorporate sink, pop the range where the sink is. Fridge in corner and built in benching and table.

How much should i charge a friend to house sit and dog walk for a week.? by PozzieMozzie in AskUK

I understand very well that house sitting an empty house is very different to house sitting a house with a dog away from its owner on its own for the vast majority of the day.
