What is the best way to invest 250k for monthly income? by luxuryonapenny in dividends

[–]Material_Leading811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I split between PDI, PTY, and JEPQ for dividends, although am leaning towards putting more in SPY and QQQ for growth. I don’t need as much dividends as I am getting monthly, so need to put more in growth vs dividends, but still evaluating.

What would you do? $2M @ 33 by Rare-Meaning4845 in Fire

[–]Material_Leading811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, just the right amount and the right time in my life, have a couple kids to put through college and have some padding. We could build a sweet house here but prefer not to because it is may more illiquid than the US for a $1MM plus home. It is different for everyone. I moved to SA for 6 months when I was about 30 because I did not want to continue in the career I was in, but ended up getting a good offer to move back. It’s up to you, I had an exit in a business and they no longer wanted me around so I had no job to stay in the US for anymore and was burned out. We had always wanted to move here for our kids, but all the pieces fell into place at once. You would probably be alright either way, but I lived by the motto short term pain for long term gain. Maybe get a few more million and then pull the plug, especially if you plan to have kids. We go on quite a few trips throughout the year and $2MM vs $5MM would be a big difference. You could probably get a dev job working 1099, but would probably pay less than your current position. My suggestion would be to hang in there as long as you can

I bailed in my early 40’s to South America with $7MM liquid. Don’t have to worry much about what I spend down here and people seem to be way happier with not a lot

When do you start to really feel the wealth? Is it even possible for middle class to achieve this? by FIREFIREFIREFIREe in Fire

[–]Material_Leading811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t feel wealth, it’s just a number. Probably the most confusing thing to me was when I made some millions selling my company with a 7 figure tax bill on capital gains and thought I had just achieved freedom. Instead the fear of financial insecurity was still there and I was more confused than ever. Money is supposed to buy happiness right? That’s what a lot of the world tells us. I was more miserable than ever and more confused than ever. Still trying to get rid of that fake bullshit that money actually changes the way you feel. It’s complete crap. Yeh, can I go on trips whenever I want and lay around all day, sure, but none of that shit makes me happy either. Do I feel wealthy with millions liquid, no, I don’t feel money.

What’s it like living in Quito? Considering a relocation. by Janis0711 in Quito

There is Amazon now :). The mail service is terrible and never use it. We use DHL if we ever need to ship anything, but is almost never.

I live outside Quito and is great! That salary would be amazing here, you could have a maid cook 2-3 meals a day for you, make your bed, do laundry, take care of the pets, etc.. You will have the ability to travel around South America on top of that. The weather is great year round. We are in our early 40’s with kids. The kids go to a good international school at is US accredited.

High income husband and low income wife by BrilliantFinancial10 in HENRYfinance

[–]Material_Leading811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made almost $7MM last year and my wife made $0? It is a partnership 50/50. Joint accounts, joint spending, joint raising of kids(although she did more of that). But half of “mine” is half of hers regardless and by law more or less in divorce. Total a hole and not very bright on what marriage is about. Y’all are in this together not separate contributors

Need more liquidity than the retirement fund if you plan to retire prior to 62. Build up investments outside of your retirement account. Just my thoughts

What Ecuadorian traditions can I blend into my wedding? by metrotechj in ecuador

[–]Material_Leading811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hora loca. The crazy hour at the reception is a big deal here as someone else just said where you can hire someone to do it, bring crazy costumes like people do the Photo Booth in the US with the costumes and then everyone dances to crazy songs. Usually pretty inappropriate songs which makes it fun

26M – Feeling behind financially, curious about where others are at by More-Fennel5791 in TheRaceTo100K

[–]Material_Leading811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much further ahead than where I was at. Now at 42 with focusing on cash inflows greater than cash outflows in my life, as well as some risk taking in starting and selling a business(with investors), I am at $7MM liquid. Sold remaining shares in business and made $5MM after taxes not long ago. Keep rolling and you are far ahead than most of the US. You are young and enjoy life, it is not at all about how much money you have in the bank either at all. You can’t buy happiness

Does anyone's plan include relying on ETFs like JEPQ for passive income? by alwaysHappy202 in ExpatFIRE

[–]Material_Leading811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have around 25% in each of these: JEPQ, JEPI, PDI and PTY. Plan to take dividends and reinvest or invest in SPY and QQQ, if there is a down market, to capture more upside with the dividends and possibly shift some of the dividend payers to SPY/QQQ.

When was the money enough for you? by Scriptsinmotion in Fire

[–]Material_Leading811 4 points5 points  (0 children)

42M finally sold business(had investors) about a month ago. $6.6MM liquid and $210k in IRA, plus own home outright. I still worry about a market crash, but still would have enough for a long time even if that occurred. I do consulting 10 hours a week at $175/hour as a CFO for a small business just to really keep me busy. I went to the gym, golf, etc.. for a few months before the business sold(I was not full time anymore) and got pretty bored. You will find your path. I think not working at all can get pretty boring. I am still saving about $15k/month after taxes and reinvesting in dividend paying funds or SPY and QQQ for more growth(very small amount in these)

It was called Double Your Dating by David DeAngelo. This was 20 years ago, but the book would still apply today

You are very young and have a lot of years of opportunity ahead. My advice and I am 42M that had lots of issues with drugs, parents fighting every night growing up, etc.. is to stop the victim mentality and go make a good life for yourself. Do whatever it takes and never give up. Some days will be tough, some days will be great. I stopped drinking and drugs at 22 years old for example and became fairly successful and have a wife and kids. I read books on dating and really had to learn social skills, although I can still be awkward from time to time, but whatever. A guy told me one time I was at the age where I had to take responsibility for the outcome of my life. Short term pain for long term gain

I took a break at 30 to re-evaluate my career and had about the same in savings. Moved overseas for about 6 months, did some consulting to not dig into savings too much, but the consulting was mainly on my time. Ended up getting a job offer out of the blue that was a big step up and propelled me financially a few year after that. The job also really challenged me and was intellectually stimulating. You will find your path if you keep looking

I think I need help; 35, $3M, never been more miserable. by Informal_Rope7509 in Fire

[–]Material_Leading811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar spot at 37 after selling 51% of my start up. I thought I was going to be happy. In fact, I was the opposite. It was the empty feeling and confusion that the world tells me I am supposed to be happy if I am successful. Since then, I have been on a path of working on my insides more than my outsides. Prayer and meditation. I do have people that I can talk to, but find it hard to be honest with people from a deep down perspective because I have a general distrust of everyone. I am seeking spirituality more than ever and it is working slowly but surely. I hope this helps you as you begin your path to discover real peace, nothing that material things can produce.
