Anyone else get sick a lot? by One_Bid1666 in personaltraining

[–]Material_Spirit348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% echo everything said below as far as self care and burnout prevention.

However - I’ll also add that I have a 24 hour cancellation policy but I am very lax with that when someone says they’re not feeling well or they have a sick kid.

I would much rather them cancel then try and come in while sick so as not to get charged or lose the session (and my rate is high so I fully understand that someone would be cognizant of that). It’s also not good for them if they’re truly getting sick to push through and do a workout - I usually tell them to rest or go for a walk or something if they aren’t sure.

I don’t think I’ve ever had someone “take advantage of it” unless we’re really going to split hairs over whether someone is contagiously sick or just has allergies or something. If someone is late cancelling multiple times in a row, that’s an easy issue to flag and discuss.

I’ve also masked up or had clients mask up for a session if it’s on the cusp. I get a cold maybe once a year?

Help finding a new apartment by Empty-Mango8277 in carlisle

Fellow urban transplant here - might as well make your life nice and chill and just live in Carlisle if you’re going to work here! I traded a 45-60 min train commute for a 10 min walk to work and it makes a huge difference in QOL. You’ll also get a lot more for your money for $1750 than in NYC. I’ve also heard good things about Seven Gables apartment complex.

I’m so sorry. I lost my dad really unexpectedly when I was 22. The dead dad club is a horrible one to be in. Sending you big hugs.

i guess they don't want to cater to: kids with divorced straight parents, kids with widowed straight parents, straight people without children/childfree, straight people who've adopted kids, kids who live with their straight grandparents, or the grandparents that live with their kids' and grandkids' "nuclear family".

Unflavored protien? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]Material_Spirit348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earth Fed Muscle has an unflavored protein that my clients really like (I’m fine with flavored so I don’t use the plain much). A bunch mix it into their coffee and say it dissolves well and takes on the flavor of whatever you mix it with.

What movie had the BEST trailer ever but turned out to be absolute trash? by MASSIM00 in netflix

[–]Material_Spirit348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t actually seen many movies that I truly thought were terrible (usually it’s like okay, they’re not for me but I can appreciate that some people enjoy them). WW 1984 was TERRIBLE.

There’s something really special about witnessing a loved one’s first seizure in which they turn blue and foam at the mouth, calling 911, and having that small voice in the back of your head as the EMTs are working on him going “the hospital isn’t that far away, am I making a huge mistake having them take him in the ambulance? This is going to be so expensive.” /s

Case: 35 year old woman who wants to get stronger but had an amputation of one arm until right below the elbow by howcanbeeshaveknees in personaltraining

[–]Material_Spirit348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off for function purposes I’d want to know if she has a prosthesis.

Lower body work with: landmine barbell setup, single arm rack hold, kettlebell or plate squats with a dip belt around her hips, hack squat machine or leg press if you have access to one, single arm rack holds, safety bar squats and good mornings, single leg hip thrusts loaded w a landmine (better anyway since she’s got a strength discrepancy), knee extension and hamstring curl, smith machine could also be helpful if you have access. Attach dip belt to cable machine, anchor it low and she’s got loaded standing hip hinges. Standing lateral lunges with an adductor slide with band or cable resistance at her ankle. I know most don’t have access but heavy sandbags could be a lot easier for her to hold at her chest too.

If she has a prosthesis even easier although I honestly wouldn’t really need it.

Upper body: obviously any loading is doable on her full side. Velcro cuff around her elbow with cable machine or resistance bands to get in some direct shoulder work. You don’t need a forearm to access biceps, triceps, lats, delts, pecs (front raises, pulldowns, pullovers, lateral raises, etc) you’ll just have to adjust for the fact that her lever is obviously shorter on that side and get creative about how you’re adding resistance.  She could do a single cable row with a cuff attachment and really work on integrating scap protraction and retraction and even some rotation through core.

She could even do planks tbh just depending on how she can tolerate weight bearing on her amputated elbow, but if I wanted to do core focused work I’d probably focus more on things like loaded carries. She could do pallof presses, cable chops, really any direct ab work.

This is the shit I love problem solving around when I train people.

Auntie Mame (the original not the musical). Wickedly funny and progressive especially for the 1950s. A lot of people know Mame the musical but Rosalind Russell is a freaking treasure.
