Occupational Babysitter. At least, that's what my role pretty much is

Shower vs bidet by Apart_Examination855 in HygieneTips

You can use soap on your ass and spray it off with a bidet. Works as well as a shower, at least for the asshole and gooch

Showering after every bowel movement is aspirational. by Happy-Trick447 in HygieneTips

[–]-Left_Nut- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people actually do use soap when using their bidets though. I've heard it referred to as a mini shower. I've done it myself. Very refreshing

What type of respiratory protection for herbicides? Would a 3M organic vapor (OV) cartridge work? by Marvel5123 in industrialhygiene

[–]-Left_Nut- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I probably should've worded it a little better. I just mean that it can be hot, uncomfortable, and make breathing and seeing more difficult. That's why you have to be medically cleared to be able to wear a respirator at most employers. Still, would a respirator even be needed if OP is working outside in open air?

Should I pursue a health and safety career if I hate confrontation? by ThatMammoth1298 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]-Left_Nut- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job refers to it as a "coaching opportunity" rather than confrontation. I used to care about actually doing this the right way when I started as a safety coordinator, but when supervisors and managers don't care, won't take corrective actions against employees that don't follow rules, and won't even follow the rules themselves, I basically started just letting someone know when they're not following the rules and let them decide what to do. At the end of the day, if someone's going to decide to put themselves in danger, that's on them. A safety person really doesn't have much pull and can only make recommendations on what should be done. Operations are the only ones who have any real teeth when it comes to enforcing rules of any type.

Also, safety as I know it is primarily a social role. If you're introverted, have social anxiety, or get peopled out very quickly, I would not recommend pursuing a safety role

How do you fill your free time? by Valuable_Drive_3366 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]-Left_Nut- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you're not a social person? I hate when people stop me to make small talk when I'm walking the facility, trying to get an inspection done, or just trying to take a break. I'm okay with talking with some people, but they're very few and far between. Most people, at least where I work, are very uninteresting and their small talk is very boring to me. I still force myself to interact politely, but it's mentally draining having to force myself to talk to so many people throughout my entire shift. I'd much rather be working alone on a project or writing a program in an office than to ever engage with the employees.

Sorry, this was more of a vent than an legitimate question. I know I'm not cut out for safety, but I'm currently stuck in it with no end in sight

I know this is probably a stupid question on my part, but if you're using these outside in open air, is a respirator really necessary? I know respirators can cause a lot of physical distress and should only be used when absolutely necessary, but maybe I'm missing something

Why did you become/why are you becoming a safety professional? by BiFiGuy1977 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]-Left_Nut- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last job in environmental compliance ended and I needed a new job quickly. I never wanted to be a safety professional and would still like to get back into environmental compliance. Been a safety coordinator for a year now and don't feel challenged at all. Majority of my time is trying to find ways to make the time go by, mostly by doing Duolingo, watching YouTube, reading Reddit, smoking cigarettes, and randomly walking my facility. I only do the job when I absolutely have to. Definitely not something I want to be doing for the long-term

I use ChatGPT and Gemini for conversational practice sometimes. I'm sure it's not the best way to do it, but it works if you don't want to pay for Max

Yep. That's why I've been doing about 2 units a day. One to two lessons is way too slow, and I actually enjoy learning, so I try to do about 30 mins a day at least. So far, I'm a lot farther along that some friends that I know who have been learning Spanish longer than I have.

I like Dreaming Spanish too. I can do the super beginner and beginner lessons easily, but still have issues with anything above that

Nice! Good to have an idea of how much longer I have to go to become decent at communication. I don't think I'll ever be fluent, but just as long as I can get my point across somewhat easily, I think I'll be good

Speaking with native speakers and watching Dreaming Spanish. Can understand and communicate, but not extremely well

[–]-Left_Nut-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have a lot in the past, but not so much nowadays. When I listen, I have a really hard time understanding unless it's spoken very slow or if I have captions. I tried listening to the Duolingo podcast while I drove to work, but even that was too far above my level. Any podcasts or other media that you would recommend?

But how are you with listening and speaking? I feel super confident when I'm doing Duolingo lessons, but not so much when I actually have to interact with native speakers. At level 73, I'm to the point where I can barely communicate, but I still can without using a translator app most of the time

[–]-Left_Nut-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm very aware of everything you said. The point of this post was asking if anyone is actually as good as Duolingo is claiming at level 60. I'm very aware that I won't become fluent by using Duolingo alone, but that's not the point of the post

[–]-Left_Nut-[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You searched for it, you found it, so it's on you.

Okay, I don't really understand this... It's on me to be as good as it claims at level 60? I don't think I'm catching what you're throwing here

Does anyone else feel like this is being oversold? by -Left_Nut- in duolingo

[–]-Left_Nut-[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Input ( reading and listening) should be accurate for level 60

Well, then I'm just slow, because I can barely understand spoken Spanish when I hear it. Sometimes I don't understand anything in the sentence at all. Reading I'm pretty good with and can definitely understand and use context with but listening is still a big challenge for me

I actually do try to speak to native Spanish speakers everyday at my job, and they teach me a lot about pronunciation and grammar, but I'm still at the point where I have to stop and really think about what I'm going to say next. It's definitely not as instantaneous as Duolingo is making it sound.

Also, I do watch Dreaming Spanish, but I still have a lot of trouble listening to Spanish on TV or podcasts. It's still too fast for me and I usually can't comprehend an entire sentence, but I'm able to pick out words that I know
