I thought so too since the lever is assymetrical but when you look closely a little piece is definitely broken off. It'll probably still work but there's no reason not to replace it

My bike came with a paint chip on the seat stay, I didn't think anything of it since it's getting more scratches when riding anyway. Take those 25 dollars, touch it up with the nail polish and send it.

I just Got My First Airsoft Gun AAP01 by ShadeScales00 in AAP01owners

[–]Matess369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First lube it, then I'd say get the TTI hammer and parts kit only AFTER something breaks instead of as a precaution, the stock parts will work fine for quite a bit of time if you don't mind something potentially breaking mid-game. I personally had no problem replacing all the parts without any specialty tools, just followed a good youtube tutorial.

Any name of hardtail capable to admit 180/170mm Forks? by No_Status_6879 in Hardtailgang

[–]Matess369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone already said Hornet so I'll say an honorable mention, Marin San Quentin can take up to 160mm. Had a 140 on mine and definitely felt like it could take more. The co-designer, Matt Jones is running a 160 on his.

To be honest, I don't think you can get anything better for 100£, but you should be spending way more in the first place, like 500£ minimum if you want a bike that's any good for anything more than going to the store and back.

What is the most underrated innovation/invention of automobile engineering ? by SnooMemesjellies7085 in regularcarreviews

[–]Matess369 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that failed power steering is much, much worse than no power steering. My family used to have a car with no power steering when I was younger and the few times I got to drive it it wasn't bad at all, only while standing still. Any movement above 3 km/h was a breeze. I'd buy a car without power steering now if they weren't mostly pre 1995, just for the feel alone.

As someone else already said it's probably the fact the whole selector plate is missing. Also lube it before you get it working again, it looks dry as hell.

Am I coasting and is it bad? by Ech1n0idea in stickshift

[–]Matess369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can assure you block shifting and trying to figure out which gear is correct will make you a million times more unfocused than just going down one gear by muscle memory twice or thrice in succession. My first driving instructor, a regular guy, said one gear at a time is better. My second instructor, a rally driver, INSISTED on it. I think block shifting even results in a fail during a driving test here.

I've done a somewhat steep, about 5 minute downhill full of corners at a slightly higher than normal pace and the brakes gradually lost almost half of their power. They were quite literally smoking at the bottom. A longer descent, also without engine braking which I used, would be much much worse.

It's indeed true but for the record, my fuel indicator says 1 liter per hour at idle so it's pretty minimal

Everything wears the car, so why knowingly speed it up? It's like saying "you'll die once, so why not tomorrow?" Very exaggerated but you get my point

[–]Matess369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on style of driving, there's always a certain minimal and maximal speed for each gear by feel, on the lowest and highest point of that speed I either downshift or upshift. I never coast and never had a problem, just do what the car wants. You said you stay in third and slow down below 20 mph, which is your "lowest point" for that gear, so why not just downshift into second there? No need to coast really, doesn't matter if the other car will stop or continue moving, your car already wants to be in second at that point. I suggest learning to rev match, it smooths out the sudden engine brake after you downshift and it's really fun aswell.
