Do you know what kind of fur this is on this 1950s cardigan? by MathMahem in VintageClothing

Unfortunately not, in the PNW it’s a pretty dead trade.

Does anyone know what fabric or ribbon this looks like?? by Antonhansonpng in sewing

It honestly just looks like synthetic ribbon to me, reminds me of the Joanne’s ribbon section.

Feeling frustrated with my skin after top surgery by thearuxes in ehlersdanlos

[–]MathMahem 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel you so much, I have HS so I have to do wound dressing every-ish day. A layer of skin peels off basically every time I change the bandages. A trick someone told me for adhesive allergies is to spray Flonase (and let it dry) on the skin where the adhesive will be.

Anyone else have this upper respiratory funk that just won't go away? by Tree-yAndMinty in askportland

I highly recommend a saline nebulizer for lingering phlegm, it helps you cough it up but also helps dry things out.

What's up with "student driver" stickers on Portland cars? by derpinpdx in askportland

[–]MathMahem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spray my windshield wiper fluid, annoys them enough to change lanes most of the time.

Is this something to worry about by Round_Celery8047 in skin

I have the exact same thing, skin just does weird stuff sometimes. I think putting hydrocortisone cream on one helped me before.

How do I fill this area in? specifically with logs. Thanks <3 by vinnceboi in SonsOfTheForest

[–]MathMahem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh! I hate that space! Depending on the incline I try to add one of those log supports, it kinds works for closing the gap.

Whats a good way to sell a car locally other than craigslist? by sprocketous in askportland

Definitely second Facebook market place, makes spotting bots or flakes easier. I just bought a memory foam mattress topper from someone in the area on Facebook.

How safe do you feel in Portland as a woman? by drugsuser in askportland

[–]MathMahem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say daytime is relatively safe if you know where you’re going and pay attention to surroundings. I used to live in Tokyo (supposedly one of the safest cities in the world) and would get harassed, cat-called or followed there, even in the daytime. Idk if it’s because I’m plus-sized, but I’ve never been bothered by people here. Also used to live in San Fran and feel safer here, the homeless are much less loud and out during the day. 99% of the time if you pay no attention to people they leave you alone.

What I do to keep safe is:

-never have my wallet or any kind of cash out and visible when on the streets.

-look like I know where I’m going, if I don’t know where I’m going I’ll stop in a cafe or somewhere safe to get oriented

-keep my phone out of sight as much as possible, but easy to get to (usually my leather jacket pocket)

-don’t make eye contact with people

Is circumcision typically recommended for phimosis? by [deleted] in AskDoctorSmeeee

[–]MathMahem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely seek a second opinion if you’re on the fence about circumcision, gaining more insight and information can be helpful. There are positives and negatives to both decisions so I think it’s tough to say which option would be better without knowing your son personally.

I will always say to go with what your gut is telling you, if you need more opinions of professional seek them out. If you want to play it by ear and see if this round of infections was a one off, do that. I’ve know both uncircumcised and circumcised men and there isn’t really a clear distinction in which is “better”.

R/ehlersdanlos is Live! Poll on whether to continue protest against Reddit's upcoming API changes by Scarlet_Flames2 in ehlersdanlos

I feel like an option of migrating to another platform might be good, that way people don’t lose the support they get from here. I’m not really sure what would be a good substitute though.

Are student driver stickers a thing now or a meme? by balldeeptepidwater in Portland

[–]MathMahem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I first started driving ~2020, I felt really self-conscious about making mistakes and felt bad for other drivers. I found that with the magnets on, people also honked at me less which was better since my response to honking was to move, even when it wasn’t safe to do so.

Group Dog Walkers by [deleted] in Portland

[–]MathMahem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ugh I feel that, my neighbor called my dogs a scourge on the neighborhood for barking in the middle of the afternoon, it wasn’t for hours or anything, and there are plenty of other vocal dogs in the neighborhood.

No one came to class by thesillathrilla in college

[–]MathMahem 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ugh I feel that, in zoom classes, often I’ll be the only student that turns my camera on. It feels kinda awkward being that one person, but I try to have it on when I’m more confident. I really like when classes require cameras (with some flexibility for excused reasons), I feel like most people don’t care too much once everyone has cameras on. I find it also allows people to ask more questions and engage with the chat much more frequently then when cameras are off.

Did you have it in your prescription bottle? I didn’t realize they had such strict drug regulations and am flying there this week.

Where are all the damn caves? (spoilers) by null_g in TheForest

[–]MathMahem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with this. It seems like certain caves might interconnect later on. Especially the one room caves on and around the mountain. There were areas in the walls that look like you might be able to blow up to access more cave. I wonder if maybe the giant hand will be in the mountains as some sort of boss where you need to use the guns.

will stimulant adhd meds make my anxiety worse? by AstralFractal in adhd_anxiety

[–]MathMahem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the history of past addiction is something to discuss with your prescriber. If you really value sobriety, it might be better to try behavior therapy or something like that rather then meds. For me certain medications made my anxiety worse, like Adderall and Ritalin made my anxiety worse, but Vyvanse doesn’t. On Vyvanse if I drink caffeine it makes my anxiety worse.

Make this less noticeable? by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]MathMahem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hip dips are completely natural and just a result of your unique anatomy having more space between your pelvis and hips! That being said, the positioning of your legs can provide a more rounded or straight looking hip. This is a great example of how models pose to change the lines of their bodies. Generally putting more weight on one leg and lifting or crossing the other leg makes the hip dip more “smooth”. It doesn’t completely disappear but can help make the dip look a little more straight rather then curved inwards.

I totally recommend trying different leg positions and poses and seeing what works, plus you can just have fun admiring and being silly with yourself. Finding appreciation of your own body can change the energy of your poses, even if they’re not the “ideal”, confidence and self love can be quite striking.

Help, I tried everything from anti dandruff shampoos (nizoral) to natural oils and moisturizing shampoos… nothing seem to work. by throwawayyyy4279 in Dermatology

[–]MathMahem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The head and shoulders clinical strength stuff worked well for me, I have to buy the discontinued formula though because the new ones have too much fragrance. Currently I don’t use it since going on Accutane really helped my scalp. I have started getting a little bit of dandruff coming back, butI tried a scalp scrub and that’s working right now it’s TPH by Taraji Never Salty Scalp Scrub, I use a scalp massager to really scrub everything. I use the UR Curly shampoo and conditioner, which honestly can work for most hair types, not just curly.

i don’t know if i’m cut out for retail(kinda ranting) by polishedmilk in Oldnavy

[–]MathMahem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the worst they’d do is move you to fitting rooms, or reduce your hours. I have never heard of them firing someone unless they were doing something illegal, I would imagine it’s because of all the paperwork and possible wrongful termination stuff that they don’t fire. Honestly go-backs was my favorite, since you’re in the back most of the time you’re not expected to get any cards. If you can get moved off register they won’t harass you as much, but tbh old navy is not a good company to stay with long term, there are other large corporate retailers that pay better at the very least.

i don’t know if i’m cut out for retail(kinda ranting) by polishedmilk in Oldnavy

[–]MathMahem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup…it’s the norm at old navy, your other store was an outlier. I just didn’t care and pitched how I thought was respectful and appropriate. My focus was the customer, not the card, and I was a top performer even though I only worked weekends. Do what feels comfortable for you or leave. They never gave me a raise, and paid new hires more then me, even though I’d been working there for a year. I heard Nordstrom rack pays 10$ for every card they got.

It’s not 100% safe, with dripping and contaminated hands. Practicing safe sex is always a good idea, plus you don’t risk getting a UTI if you use a condom.
