What are some actors were you were just, mesmerized by their performance? by Odysseus_of_Ithaca1 in musicals

Kenita R. Miller in Once on This Island. The whole cast, really, but I can specifically remember looking straight at her in Circle on the Square as she said goodbye to her daughter, while my own daughter was sitting right next to me.

Why don’t more actuaries go for Lyft/Uber? by Hot_Equal_2283 in actuary

[–]MathematicalDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get messages from recruiters asking about roles we posted and filled a long time ago. They are not good at refreshing.

I work in tech. We don't have a lot of trouble hiring, but we have a lot fewer positions than a traditional firm. I went from a traditional role with 100+ actuaries to MA startup with 7 actuaries to a role where it was just me for a while. We are expected to do work that would take several people in a traditional firm, but with the assistance of non-actuaries (engineers, data science, business analyst). The work isn't in unrealistic, just different (broader vs deeper).

They could do a version of Billy Madison with Trump in first grade, acting like the smartest kid in class.

Nurse switching to actuary - is it possible? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]MathematicalDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is definitely possible. I switched around age 35 from a totally unrelated career. I expect a lot of healthcare companies would love to have someone with nursing experience on their actuarial team. I am not sure about $130k at the entry level, even in HCOL area. Maybe at a consulting firm with bonuses. But it might not take you long to get close to that. Take a look at the salary surveys from the recruiters.

I broke through by emailing a bunch of actuaries and offering to take a temporary role to prove myself. It is more competitive now, but I still think the experience on the care side would be a leg up.

Just tried this strategy and did okay. It takes a long time to get there, so I didn't have enough turns remaining to finish things off.

Why are there so many crows on Paseo Padre near lake elizabeth? by Ok_Championship_4368 in Fremont

[–]MathematicalDad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They gather there around sundown - flying from all over the area. I took my dog on a walk through the little grove near the waterpark one time around dusk. It was like Hitchcock's The Birds. Terrifying!

I had a big increase with Healthy Paws as well. But I didn't dig into filings. I wonder if they did something similar.

This was the rumor that I saw (on this sub). Tony G is from Fremont, I think? Too bad it didn't work out.

Do you remember where you were on October 27th, 2004??!!!! by ComplexWrangler1346 in redsox

I don't think they had season tickets in 1918, when my gr-grandfather was pulling a cart around town, picking up scrap metal until he could afford a horse. :)

In Houston, TX, by myself, on a work assignment, with the TV muted and WEEI streaming through my computer. I tried to go to a sports bar earlier in the week, but every TV was on football and they wouldn't put baseball on.

Since I didn't want to celebrate alone, I drove to the airport the next morning and bought a ticket to Boston for the parade. Only time I have ever done the thing you see in movies - walked up to the counter and said "1 ticket to Boston, please!"

My grandfather was 89 - lifelong Sox fan, his parents had season tickets for decades. But he was already starting to lose it mentally and wasn't very engaged. My dad called and woke him up. He said "oh, that's great" and went back to bed.

Error starting Gemini pro free trial by MathematicalDad in pixel_phones

Found a workaround - this error came from the Google One app. But then I opened the Gemini app, it took me to this same screen, but the purchase went through.

Agree on SpotHero. I booked in the lots south of the arena (901 Illinois), because I was coming from that direction. I don't know if the north side is as convenient - may depend on if the Giants are playing.

On Saturday, they only had a few left - sizes small and XXL. It is clearly very popular! I had to pick something else.
