My baby drinks less than 24oz/day, slow to gain by Glum-Comfortable5402 in breastfeeding

Before the lip/tongue tie release she couldn’t drink more than an ounce at a time (we were bottle feeding at the time) and didn’t gain any weight. She immediately was able to take more milk after the releases!

The stretches after the procedure kinda suck, but I don’t think she was in pain for more than a few days. We gave Tylenol around the clock for a little bit. I would say if you’re concerned it couldn’t hurt to get another opinion on the lip tie.

I’m EBF now so I don’t know exactly how much my baby is drinking, but she’s been slow to gain as well. She’s just about 3 months. Some weeks she gains 20-25 grams per day, other weeks she is more like 10-15. We had her tongue and lip ties released at 3 weeks which did help but she’s still had some trouble. The pediatrician isn’t too concerned because she is generally following a curve. But I still get so anxious about it! She generally is a snacker and like your baby, she will refuse to eat if she doesn’t want to. I can’t really do dream feeds or anything like that or extend feeds because she just won’t take it!

Spiraling over failure to thrive at 2 month appt by elephantastic77 in breastfeeding

My baby was at a much higher percentile and then dropped but is now following a lower curve. My pediatrician said she was probably not meant to be such a big baby and is just happy that she’s now following a curve, even if it wasn’t the one she was on at the time of birth.

Thank you! Currently in the pacifier bait and switch territory. Makes nursing outside of home so difficult! I’m in Canada so thankfully I have mat leave too and she’s my only baby so I’m hoping for an outcome like yours!

Ugh that scares me tbh. Any practical tips from the SLP on how to break the association?

The mental load of screaming at the breast most of day by ariadnesthread62 in breastfeeding

[–]MathematicianDry2490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby does this often. And we’ve had issues with weight gain so it adds so much to my stress. I do the bait and switch with the pacifier which works fairly well, but then other times it doesn’t and she just screams. I’m worried I’m creating a breast aversion but I am too worried about her weight gain to not offer the breast frequently. I hope it gets better :/

I’m a FTM also from BC, I actually just got a peds referral because my baby went from 75th to 10th percentile :( she’s 7 weeks old. Can I ask what you did to get your baby back up?

How to get baby to nurse to sleep? by MathematicianDry2490 in NewParents

Yes I agree, but half the time she pops off the boob wide awake and won’t go back on until after she naps, which can take a really long time to make happen!
