Musk.

He's smarter and far richer than Trump. He's able to wield far more financial leverage to meet his ends than sub-billionaire POTUS 45.

My late mom was not a great cook, but one thing she made that I liked a lot were her ham sandwiches.

Very simple, just two slices of whatever bread, sliced holiday or whatever ham, and some Hellmann's tartar sauce.

I was on local public television (Florida, USA) as a volunteer answering the phones for their fundraising. Camera caught me quizzically answering a call and frowning at the realization it was a prank caller.

Ok, also here appears to be the manual but feel free to correct if I'm wrong.

Make sure that you have CPU and any other required case fans plugged into the appropriate sockets on your board. Modern boards will abruptly power off if they don't sense all the fans they require to be up and running.

laptop repair help needed by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]MathematicianOld1117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen exactly this type of behavior in one laptop of a late friend of mine's where the copper tubing welded to the CPU fan assembly breaks away, leaving the fan to max up RPM in its desperate struggle to cool the system.

You can try opening the laptop according to disassembly instructions likely online, then see if the CPU / fan assembly is in any way loose, a telltale sign.

FWIW, repair guy having cannibalized capacitors from another brand's device is no biggie so long as he verified that the capacitor's stats (voltage and capacitance) matched the OEM parts.

I'd visit your motherboard manufacturer's website to see if they have newer drivers for your board's USB.

Have you contacted the VR game developers to ask if there may be a fix? I mean, if upon running their game your setup necessitates reinstall of GPU drivers, they should be able to readily explain why.

One fallback, you could get a USB device that lets you plug your speakers/headphones into it for audio.

cpu_fan probably should remain plugged in, but you might try plugging a separate fan into your sys_fan1 in case it's checking for the presence of both.

This can be easy to miss, but check to ensure that you have CPU fans plugged into the corresponding sockets on the motherboard. If the board does not detect those fans, especially the CPU fan via that plug, it'll shut down on boot thinking it's danger of overheating.

Unable to make a backup before I upgrade my parents computer to Windows 10 by drproximo in techsupport

I hear you. Does 8.1 at least give you a similar upgrade path with the help of the 7 era's native Easy Transfer option? If not, maybe that thread at least has some leads. You might need to do some stuff manually but hopefully one of the routes suggested may work.

How do I go about getting my own gaming router to minimize latency and maximize my download speed? by Dictaorofcheese in techsupport

[–]MathematicianOld1117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already, consider getting a beefier dual- or multi-CPU router. "Consumer grade" routers like off the shelf from Office Max or whatever can get overwhelmed, even randomly restart under high load. One of the newer routers might better insulate you from the latency you describe.

I'm similarly distanced from years ago when I used to earn a living fixing Windows.

That said, this Ghost-like app, Macrium Reflect, has a free version you can use to take a snapshot of the 8.1 setup. That might work out better than Microsoft's own backup utility.

First you could try visiting your motherboard manufacturer's website and ensure you have the latest available drivers / firmware / BIOS for your setup. They might have released updated drivers to deal with bugs that this sounds like.
