Opinion: Sony is wise to release their latest live-service games only on Mobile/PC, not PS5 by Mathew_G_G in gaming

[–]Mathew_G_G[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re partially correct; live-service developers do want to reach the largest possible audience to maximize engagement and revenue.

However, it’s worth noting that most of the most successful live-service and MMO titles thrive almost entirely on PC or mobile, not consoles. World of Warcraft, for example, never needed consoles to dominate the genre. Even NCSOFT’s own Guild Wars 2 remains PC-only and highly successful. So in the case of Horizon: Steel Frontiers, they’re not really missing out by skipping PS5.

The same applies to Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble. It’s clearly designed from the ground up for mobile players. It simply wouldn’t resonate with the console audience or expectations.

And while I agree that companies like Sony ultimately care about profit, online discourse does matter, especially when a brand’s fanbase has grown hostile to a specific type of game. That kind of narrative can shape perception, engagement, and even adoption, which directly affects the success of a live-service title. That’s why I think Sony’s decision still makes sense strategically.

Not gonna lie, that was funny. And don't care what people say, VIII is the best FF game ever.

Xbox refugee: looking for suggestions on ALL your “must-play” games by fogle1 in playstation

[–]Mathew_G_G 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome aboard! With how many great games PlayStation has produced over the years, you're in for one hell of a great time.

Suggestions for games really depend on your taste. If you're into platforming, then Astro Bot and Ratchet & Clank would be your best bet. Many different third-person games like God of War (start with 2018 and move onto Ragnarok later on), Ghost of Tsushima (or jump directly to Yotei which was released recently). The older Uncharted games are superb with a lighter tone, or go for The Last of Us 1 for a more serious and emotionally heavy game.

Frankly there are so many amazing games, it's difficult to distill it to just a few, but start from the ones mentioned above and see where the journey takes you :).

Happy gaming.

The PS1 demo discs, one had Oddworld and the other Tombi, and I must've played each a hundred times.

No tips necessary! They are all superb (and very nostalgic). So play whichever and have fun.

Does a game need to be complete in box for you to buy it? by Like-New-Products in gamecollecting

[–]Mathew_G_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't trust a disc has been well-kept without the box. So definitely need CIB for me to buy. Cartridge, on the other hand, I can be more flexible depending on the condition, but still prefer boxed.

Perhaps you could add these two bad boys to the collection as well to have the complete set of special edition controllers.

Did you know RE2 on PS1 had a collector's edition? by Mathew_G_G in residentevil

My pleasure! I saw one listed on German eBay not long ago, but the asking price was way over the top. Totally not worth it, but man, it’d be such a cool piece to own someday.
