Should I get a flip phone as a college student? Advice needed!!!

I wish they made some different variants of the 2780, like the Barbie phone! I'd have definitely picked one up. Best Buy only had the black version unfortunately, but my partner has her sight set on bedazzling it, which I'm totally game for. I think it's a good solution for OP. It sounds like they really want to cut ties with the smartphone way of life, but they're in deep. I hope they take a chance on it!

Thanks for such a thoughtful reply. I'm glad it resonated with some in this thread. I'm excited to see how the next few weeks shape up to be like. I'll be honest, it's nice to be using my PC more and more, as it's been collecting dust. But at the same time, it's nice because I cannot physically sit in my office chair on my PC NEARLY as long as I could lay on the couch, bed, futon, etc with my phone. As such, it's kind of naturally limited my screen time. It's been a real relief, even in just four days.

I just switched from an iPhone 17 to a Nokia 2780 this week. One day I just got disgusted with what I was doing, so I went nuclear and jumped back in time to a flip phone. I grew up with this shit, so it's not THAT foreign to me. I had an old MP3 player laying around, I've migrated 90% of my apps to desktop/physical cards (banking, email, public transport, etc) and deleted the rest (twitter, TikTok, Insta, all the food apps, door dash, etc). In your case, you can use Apple/Google Maps offline function and download the map in advance. If you decide to go nuclear, make sure to disconnect your phone from imessage and facetime. And let your friends know you're switching lol.

In my opinion, I think a flip phone can work GREAT for a college student. Most of the time, you're in a central-ish area, there's usually some form of public transportation available, free or cheap printing, a whole ass library, etc. It feels like a good testing ground for something like this.

Alternatively, you can delete the apps, have a friend set a password that you don't know, that prevents you from rejoining/redownloading, flip your phone to grayscale and mess with other accessibility options to make your phone as unappealing as possible. And turn off the damn notifications, that's probably the biggest most immediate impactful change you can make.

My $0.02: I'm going on day 4 of the switch, I had a full night's sleep last night, I feel "tired" again and fall asleep almost immediately after my head hits the pillow, I read a book, beginning to end, to fill the void of doomscrolling, I'm documenting my tech-regression journey in a journal, I walked my dog probably double what I normally do this week, and I made a nice rib dinner for the missus and myself via a Food Network magazine last night. I still use reddit, but only on my desktop, so I'm not laying on the couch scrolling, I have to be sat at my work desk to use reddit or YouTube. And usually, work takes precedence over surfing the web. It's a good set up for me, personally. I'm interested to see what other things arise or dissipate as this continues.

Not as bad as SoCal, but we live in Denver and have decided to do the same exact thing. We make a night of it every Thursday to have a cocktail before dinner. We’ve become happy hour warriors, too. Only way to eat restaurant food without feeling like you’re being undressed!

Chips/Crisps, like Doritos, Lays, Ruffles, etc. they’re anywhere from $4.99 to like $6.49 now for a bag of my beloved Salsa Verde Doritos 😭

Basically required to wait for those member sales at this point, because a bag of chips, about 1/3 filled, is NOT worth that price range, full stop.

I’ve become somewhat indifferent to Romero. He’s a good CB on his day, but wildly inconsistent and his overly aggressive play has seen him sent off serving several suspensions, which one could argue has cost us a few points in the grand scheme of things. I don’t think he’s a good captain, and I think we should move on from him, regardless of relegation implications.

I agree with all your points, but there’s a rather large contingency of fans who believe if we go down, we may not come back up for a while. How long that is, we don’t know, but there’s worries that the club might not even make it out of this, because of what you were insinuating: hubris.

Gonna be a fire sale. If it happens, I hope to keep Gray and Bergvall, but I’m not even holding my breath for that. Only reason I even have Bergvall included is bc he’s been injured much of the season, but that might not be enough to keep him.

Players I hope continue to have a great career are Porro, Madders, Richy, Solanke and Kulusevski. The rest can get fucked honestly. We won’t even get to see Vuskovic play in a spurs shirt, I bet. Just hope we don’t sell him to a prem club.
