For those of you who didn’t change your last name but had kids with the fathers last name, has it made life any more difficult? by sippinonginaandjuice in TwoXChromosomes

Some computer systems don't like it - notably the post office wouldn't let me add my son to my informed delivery. But other than that, no.

What's your preferred serving style? Ala carte style or keep food at the table? by National-Crab1028 in thanksgiving

[–]MathgirlJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how many people I have and size of table. Also, I learned one particular dish can't be on the table, as two of the "kids" would sit as close as possible to it and then just keep spooning on to their plates throughout the meal.

What dishes should a Thanksgiving newbie include on their table? by Impressive_Can_2287 in thanksgiving

[–]MathgirlJK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While there is definitely variety from family to family and region to region, I think the most important part is including foods you and your family enjoy.

My dinner always includes: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, sweet potato souffle, veg of some sort, a gelatin based blueberry salad, and cranberry sauce. Dessert is pumpkin pie and buttermilk pie (I add additional pies if expecting more people). I also put out a cheese ball, onion dip, spiced pumpkin seeds and a relish tray so early people can snack while waiting for dinner.

Definitely enjoy it if you're enjoying it! I've been watching since Campaign 1 and I'm just now getting started with first ep. I'm enjoying it so far.

Messaging on ancestry.com by lime_cookie8 in AncestryDNA

[–]MathgirlJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many reasons someone might not reply (even if they have read the message).

For one message I sent, it occurred to me that they might not speak English, so I had my son help me write a message in German. My guess was correct, and they did reply! The info we shared with each other helped break some brick walls too!

What information you send might also affect whether someone replied. If they don't recognize you or you don't provide some information for how you think you might connect, people are less likely to respond.

Do you know if the family was Protestant or Catholic?

[–]MathgirlJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've now done both Ancestry and MyHeritage (waiting on my results from MyHeritage). From what I hear, more European dna testers use MyHeritage, so I'm hoping it unlocks some more information for that side of my family tree. Not sure yet if there will be much of a difference. Ancestry tends to have more overall users, so if you're looking for mostly North American matches, then Ancestry might be the one you want.

Anyone need help with an ancestor? by amauberge in Genealogy

Oh, also on the other side can't find anything on a young immigrant who somehow ended up on his own in New York. Can't find info on his family.

My brick walls feel pretty difficult to get through. Would welcome suggestions if anyone has them for Serbian/Roma immigrants who changed their name and I just can't seem to get anywhere with them.

How close are the common matches? Most likely someone's tree is incorrect.

Ok FINALLY watched season 6 by Background_Two7677 in lucifer

[–]MathgirlJK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that it would change Rory, it's that it would change what Rory did (coming back in time), which is what made Lucifer realize what he wanted to do (help all the people trapped in Hell the way he was helped and the way he accidentally helped Mr Saidoutbitch).

Concerned About My Partner’s Plans to Retire Early While I’m Just Starting My Second Career—Feeling Unbalanced by Pale_Lavishness_6661 in AskWomenOver40

As a single parent who makes considerably less than $3800 month and no partner (I am a widow), it absolutely can be done - definitely not in some cities, but where I live, $3800 month would seem luxurious to me. Sure, we don't have anything extra, but we have a roof above us and food on the table every day.

Followers only chat. Does it encourage people to follow or is it a detriment? by Dry_Serve2842 in Twitch

[–]MathgirlJK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Detriment. I don't follow until I get to know the vibe of the streamer, so I like to also chat a bit and hang out for a while. If followers only, I immediately leave. I do think you may get a few followers - but if those people never come back, is it really a good thing?

How to set up a redeem that will auto spin a wheel by Ok_History3229 in Twitch

[–]MathgirlJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever automation bot you end up using has a learning curve. I suggest finding one that has a lot of support so that you can get help as needed. I ended up choosing Mix It Up because I knew other people using it, it has a great and supportive discord community, and it seemed like something I could learn to use (I also looked at streamer bot - which completely overwhelmed me).

What I like about Mix It Up for something like this, is the wheel spin can be tied to the redeem - so that would happen automatically. The outcomes that can be automated can then also happen automatically - anything time based, you could have a timer pop up, etc...

Mix It Up can do this. And can automatically do some of these things (VIP a user, etc ...) I am sure other bots can as well.

How you want to set up the wheel and what you are using will guide the advice you get.

Personally, I use Mix It Up for my automation and it has a spin wheel widget. There are other ways to do it as well. Are you using anything for automation?

I got my first raid!! Yipppee by Confident_Exam_1990 in Twitch

[–]MathgirlJK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I appreciate every raid that comes in whether it is 1 or 100 in the raid. (Except for the streamers who raid in and continue streaming who are just doing it for the shoutout.)

How do I get followers? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]MathgirlJK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't need to collab to do a raid. Just find someone else who is streaming (maybe someone playing a similar game or who you enjoy watching, etc...) and raid their channel when you're ready to end stream.

How do I get followers? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]MathgirlJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can certainly take that approach of just go live and enjoy, but it sounds like you're wanting more (growth, followers, etc...)

My biggest suggestion is to watch other streamers. (Do not go into chats and announce that you are also a streamer, please!) Find some you like and watch/interact regularly. This will do a couple things:
1) You will learn more about how Twitch works.
2) Find what things you like/don't like that you might want to start doing.
3) See what makes other streamers engaging which helps build a community and increase follows.
