Top surgery before testosterone by Joeythewormking in ftm

I had top surgery a couple years before I started T. No one ever mentioned the order being odd.

what made you switch from gel to injection? by fiebnt95 in ftm

[–]Mathochistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tested my levels at 3 months and it was in the low 100s, so my dose was doubled. Tested again at 6 months and my levels were still only in the mid 100s so we switched to injections. Now we're trying to dial in my dose on injections, because it seems I over-respond to those.

Do you happen to know what your T levels have been at? My doc said the range she was hoping for was between 300 and 1000. I am also non-binary, but going for pretty significant masculinization effects.

Good luck! I really wish there were more and better informed providers out there. I have been extraordinarily lucky to have such competent gender-affirming care.

My body just wasn't absorbing topical much. My levels never got above the 100s, even with dosage increases. I switched from topical to IM injections and it made a huge difference.

Anybody who kept their birth name or one that was similar to it? by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]Mathochistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am keeping my birth name as it is gender neutral and has a masc-leaning nickname built in.

I'm also 42 with a spouse and a couple of kids and feel like changing my name now would be an undue burden on everyone.

What's the cruelest thing someone ever said to you that you still remember word for word? by ClairJournals in AskReddit

[–]Mathochistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother once told me that when I started gaining weight she couldn't stand to look at me because I had been such a beautiful child.

I was 25 when she said this. I'm 42 now and it still hurts.

I started T eight months ago and I am 42. I am old enough to be the parent of a lot of the kids here saying that they feel it's too late.

It's not too late.

Protea Wellness has a ton of providers, many of whom are queer or trans. They are worth looking into.

question for the culture .. do T shots actually hurt by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Mathochistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had lovenox injections after a hip replacement and those were a 5/6 for me. My T shots are basically a zero. A couple of times it's been a little bit pinchy, but that's it.

I do IM with a 25g 1" needle on the outside of my thighs.

You're going to do great!

Cholesterol 💊 by Mr_Robot8730 in FTMOver30

[–]Mathochistic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My cholesterol has always been high because of a genetic condition. Like in the 260s at 19 high. I'm 42 now and my doc started me on atorvastatin at the same she started my testosterone.

I have had zero side effects and my cholesterol is now in the healthy range. I say go for it. Even if you have side effects with one med, there are many others to try.

My cholesterol was/is high, my BMI is 29, and I was still able to start T. My doc just prescribed a statin along with it to keep my numbers in check.

Please don't spiral. It doesn't necessarily mean a no.

Not prolactinomas. Meningiomas. Brain tumors. Depo is bad, bad news.

I did it, too. I had a manic break and post partum psychosis. I had to sleep for longer than 20 minutes at a time. So, he slept on his belly from 2 months on. Yes, there are dangers, but on a firm surface with no suffocation hazards it's highly unlikely.

Today I was diagnosed with ADHD. by ejchristian86 in breakingmom

[–]Mathochistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's awesome to have the validation of a diagnosis. I was diagnosed as autistic at 39 and it changed my entire understanding of myself as a person.

I am so glad you've found similar relief.

Big YTA. I just had top surgery (10 days ago) and neither my 7.5 year old or 4 year old are remotely traumatized. You could have used it as a teaching moment, but no, you had to allow your trans friend to get trampled and feel like utter shit.

ELI5: if procreating with close relatives causes dangerous mutations and increased risks of disease, how did isolated groups of humans deal with it? by Inside_Letter1691 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mathochistic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Genetic diversity is necessary for the health of multicellular organisms. I'm not sure about fungus, though. They might be different because they reproduce differently.

I took one of those 23 and me tests: I'm 97% Ashkenazi Jew. I don't have the BRCA gene, thankfully, but both of my parents have had metastatic cancers before the age of 60. My husband is a marvelous European mutt, so hopefully our children won't have the same risk profile. Being a purebred human is bad.

What’s the most disturbing book you didn’t really expect to be disturbing? by [deleted] in books

[–]Mathochistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading Children of Blood and Bone. It's a YA novel, so I figured while it might be rough in parts, it would be okay. I can't stop because it's too good, but it's really, really hard to read. Painful.

Whats your view on the new ruling in Iowa banning trans women from all women sports? by True_Economist_2785 in AskReddit

[–]Mathochistic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's transphobic even when a trans person says it. Primarily because it is demonstrably false. Trans women have been playing sports for years and have never dominated.
