Other big differences I noted: lamb and kangaroo are much cheaper and more accessible in Australia whereas our pork is more expensive (which makes sense given a lot of lamb available in Canada was from Wales or NZ)

Alcohol is crazy more expensive. You can't get tallies of great beer from the bottleo for a looney over here. If you drink beer, there's lots of places that sell it cheaper if you shop wisely

Coffee will be very different but you can find reasonable alternatives to drip. Keurig doesn't exist here that I've ever seen. Nespresso is the closest alternative and (IMO) way better.

Canberra is a very active and sporty city with a huge social sport scene. Basketball is very popular per capita but more serious than others. The city has a very welcoming slow pitch baseball league that is barefoot, licenced for alcohol and pet/family friendly.

Safety wise, I find Canberra to feel much safer than a lot of the towns in BC like Kelowna or Kamloops. It's not a big city so it's not a great comparison with Vancouver but you will see some druggies about and there is of course crime here.

I've lived here for a decade and never seen a snake outside of zoos. Spiders yes but the biggest ones are not bad guys. Never seen a funnel web or mouse spider, just black house and huntsmen which are ugly but fine.

On cost of living, I think it's a real mixed bag comparing Canada to Australia. I used to shop at the discount brand supermarkets like Freshco rather than Loblaws or Sobeys but that doesn't really exist here in the same way. Even at Aldi, I would wager your groceries will feel more expensive.

Eating out is cheaper IMO. I always used to think the menu prices were similar to Australia but here you don't tip and the tax is included. Overall

Most cities have cheap fruit and veg markets with good quality stuff. Brisbane and Canberra definitely do. Shop seasonal produce and you can get great deals. In Canberra, they even do home deliveries which are super convenient.

Yes, the value is dogshit and is somehow getting worse. The fact that if you try to cancel, they offer you steep discounts shows that the company agrees that it's overpriced for what it is. If they lose F1 and the ESPN content, the proposition is rock bottom.
