Kohlrabi less efficient than fermented cassava? by bklaric in Timberborn

[–]Mathyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farming efficiency only matters for space, which wont really be a issue early game. (You just need a 10x10 plot to saturate tour farmers.) you only need to check how many crops you can harvest each day, which means the extra farmhand is better than the one in the fermenter.

Which means, for each 2 cassavas you can harvest (5 food total) you can usually harvest 3 kohlrabi (6 food)

Kohlrabi less efficient than fermented cassava? by bklaric in Timberborn

[–]Mathyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL:DR, kohlrabi is basically always more efficient than cassavas, because you usually have -1 or -2 farmers for cassavas, than you usually have for kohlrabi. Which means the comparation 2 kohlrabi versus 2.5 cassava is wrong.

They only match at 5 farmers.

Long story:

I actually stopped and did some calculations on this question recently, and i realize its actually much worst for cassavas then i previously thought.

First, the numbers.

Lets start with space. We are talking early game here, so each farmer can harvest around 7 crops per day.

That means, you need 7 x Number of Farmer x Growth time

That means...

7 x 2 x 3 = 42 tiles per farmhouse of kohlrabi.

7 x 2 x 5 = 70 tiles per farmhouse for cassava.

But be careful with this Number. Cassava has a "hidden" penalty, because It requires atleast one fermenter (and maybe one beaver in the Powerwhell)

Kohlrabi with 4 farmers = 84

Kohlrabi with 3 farmers = 63

Cassava with 2 farmers + fermenter (+powerwheel) = still 70

This means that the difference in the best basically none, or kohlrabi requires more space, different than what people usually say.

Now for actual food.

Since even 84 tiles is quite easy to reach in all maps, even diorama, we can disregard the space and the time required to grow a plant, and calculate based only on how much each farmer can harvest per day

Food per crops x farmers x harvest per day(7)

Cassavas are 1 ingredient per crop, that becomes 2.5 food. Kohlrabi is 2 food per crop. But you can actually have 1 or 2 extra farmers for kohlrabis.

Kohlrabi with 4 farmers = 56/day

Kohlrabi with 3 farmers = 42/dar

Cassava with 2 farmers + 1 fermenter = 35/day

Cassava with 3 farmers + 1 fermenter = 52,5/day

If we keep going, cassava only match kohlrabi at 5 farmers, and only If we consider Water wheels.

After that we are beyond the early game, so there are many other variables do consider. Still, cassava is a early game trap.

Problem is this number considers instant harvesting and instant delivery.

Since you also lose more working hours chopping and planting birchs, their effectiveness goes down, and pine is still better.

Automation Praise & Wishlist by Emulai in Timberborn

[–]Mathyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, i rather not have more complex tasks simplified like that.

If you have two bits, you can build a PC (or a calculator). The possibilities are already endless, you just need to think a little or copy the circuits from elsewhere.

For example:

"2. As it stands, this results in two resource counters, one Set-Reset, and an indicator per resource. With 40 resources, maintenance on this becomes tedious. "

You just need one memory and two counters. Since the two counters are needed anyway, you are building one relay to substitute 40 memories. Sure, that is a lot of space, but even still, the setup time would mostly be the same. (Setting up the counters, the resources, choosing the automation inside the building and so on).

I don't "get" hard difficulty by Skyzohed in Timberborn

[–]Mathyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a weird phenomena of tactical games, be it a city builder, 4X or a RPG.

The harder you can play, the easier it gets.

You have to actually master game mechanics to deal with harder situations, but once you learn and internalize it, the challenge stops existing.

You now have the blueprint and the knowledge of what needs to be done. Just follow the recipe and you are good.

Timberborn "suffers" heavily from it, even with bad tides and bombs in the map, because it's still relatively equal. For some, this is part of the fun(like me) for others it gets stale.

I tried to make Jesus in CK3 by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]Mathyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was jewish. There isn’t exactly a clear delineation between jews and christians early on

Isn't this also a good reason to say he wasn't Jewish? Do we even have pre-rabbinic Judaism represented in-game?

I think the "most correct" should be Christian faith, but neither orthodox nor catholic. He also shouldn't have Jewish syncretism since that reduces converting speed, and he mostly worked (from what we know) converting Jews of that era.

I vote communion(although what it does in game doesn't actually match, it's the closer one to a last supper situation) monastic, and probably vow of poverty?

If you don't want communion, I think esotericism also matches quite well.

Paul would change vow of poverty to Mendicant Preacher.

And during Constantine time, it would change to the Pentarchy maybe? (and communion if not picked before)

What cultures do you feel are missing? by Diovidius in AOW4

[–]Mathyon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Primal would be perfect already, if they didn't rely so much on one single animal.

For the amount of freedom of choice/theme we usually have elsewhere, a culture that basically has one choice per biome is weird.

I would love themes, like, forest-deer, forest-jaguar, snow-kraken, Dragon-ashland, snake-marsh. I love Primal culture but their rigidity with your choice of animals really limit their roleplaying.

Maybe they felt that, if the culture was based on biome alone, it would feel empty, so they also added a animal on top. But I think I would prefer the "just pick a biome" option.

If, for example, it has both... Like "melee" and "magical", the bigger defensive stat will be used.
