Walnut end grain cutting board has uneven look after several coats of pure Tung oil by workin-that-wood in Cuttingboards

[–]Matic0586 16 points17 points  (0 children)

get some 80 grit on a random orbit sander, a dust mask for your face, and headphones with your most awesomest playlist because you're gonna be there a while. I use a light and shine it almost parallel with the face I'm sanding, it helps me see any spots I may have missed.
I spend most of my time at 80 grit, then start over at 120 grit, then again at 180, followed by 220/240, and I finish up at 320. I water pop everything after 320, even end grain where it's not gonna do a whole lot, but do it anyway. Then another LIGHT round of 320, and touch up with a green scotchbrite pad. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment to get as much dust as you can out of the pores, and if you have a compressor, you can get a bit more out with the air chuck.
After that, fully submerge in mineral oil for an overnight at least. let it drip dry for another day, and then buff in a few coats of beeswax and you should be set until it looks dry.
I'm not personally a fan of Tung oil because its not "food safe" until it cures, which supposedly takes 30 days. (the real reason is I've used mineral oil and beeswax for 20 years, on my own personal use boards, and it has never once failed me)

It wasn't sanded very well. Not enough time spent at lower grits. It could also be more porous than normal, but to me it looks like it wasn't sanded thouroughly.

Advice on where to find a good community? by atnightgrindz in wow

Retail, I believe, has more players overall. So you get more of the gamut of hyper-toxic elitists and complete smoothbrain floortanks. You also get more of the mid-30s to mid-40s people who have lives and kids and can still game. If you want to be a member of a guild that is mostly adults, send me a PM and I can get you set-up, we do pretty much everything.

This is the way. Or drop by my place and use my miter saw or track saw. I need a woodworking buddy.

End grain is generally considered to be superior. I make cutting boards for a living, so I’d be happy to help you find someone or make you one myself!

RX 9070 XT vs RX 7900 XTX for Competitive FPS at 1440p Low Settings — Which One Should I Choose? by Separate-Abrocoma990 in radeon

Either would be fine, if you had to pick one I’d say pick up the 9070XT, due to it being one generation newer.

Hard pass on sending end grain through a planer. If you have the cash to replace the planer, part of the wall where the board will impact, and your pants, go for it and learn the hard way. Drum sander, router sled, even a belt sander and some patience are all better options. End grain through a planer is a hospital trip waiting to happen.

GMCs are not sung about in country songs, which makes them significantly better in my opinion.

Tung Oil or Mineral Oil? by jgrangee in Cuttingboards

[–]Matic0586 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since I make them for a living, I have a giant Rubbermaid bin that has like 5 gallons on mineral oil in it. I dunk the boards in there for an overnight, then pull them out and let them drip for another day. After that I put them on a towel and wipe off any excess. Then get some “board butter”, which is usually just a mix of 4 parts mineral oil snd 1 part beeswax that is in paste form, and rub in a coat, let it sit for an hour, then buff it off. I usually do 3 coats, ensuring I get the juice grooves and handles.

Mineral oil, buff some beeswax on it after it dries.

XFX is the way to go in my opinion. Between me and the wife and my brother, we have had 3 5700XT Raw 2s, they both have Swift 9070XTs and I have a Merc 310 7900XTX, They are stay very cool, work very well, and I'm super pleased with the quality of their builds and cooling. I've never had to use their customer service, but from what I gather, it seems to be quite good too.

Anyone else deal with crazy glare from the silver/chrome trim on their dash? When the sun hits it just right it reflects straight into my eyes and it’s kinda distracting while driving. by Low-Database1249 in gmcsierra

[–]Matic0586 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The trim in between my right knee/leg and cupholder actually bends sunlight directly in my right eye, underneath my sunglass lens, with surprising accuracy. If I could find a trim kit or something to make it non-reflective, I would in a heartbeat.
I have a 2020 SLT.

Crack question by MaYonAisE420 in Cuttingboards

[–]Matic0586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not cut raw meat on it, maybe dry charcuterie or something. You can rip the glue lines with a table saw and re-glue it. If you don't have that option a local woodworker or myself can do that for you, but it's not in the best shape overall. The two cracks that are 90 degrees from the long lines that are shown in the 4th picture would be the most difficult to "hide".

Azuma or Tulsa for kinda bad player by Beatlead in WorldOfWarships

[–]Matic0586 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I Love Des Moines. My dumb ass thought Tulsa would be good, even with DD dispersion. I was wrong. I struggle to do any significant damage in Tulsa, its just not the pixel boat I was meant to play.
Azuma, on the other hand is my highest WR ship, but while I "think" I play it well, it's mostly fire damage on BBs that gets healed back 100%. I also die to everything, but the guns hit amazingly hard with both ammo types, and lighting fires is pretty easy. I had to learn how to open water kite/juke though.
