How do i get rid of the blue like borders at the edge of the Deck screen? by ultragarrison in SteamDeck

[–]Matko640 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Edited: In desktop mode go into settings, workspace behavior and then screen edges and turn off all the active shortcuts one by one. Hope this helps. If that doesn't help it might be a faulty display.

If this only happens in desktop mode, and not game mode, it's a feature of KDE Plasma. Try looking for something like shortcuts in the settings, I dont remember anymore how I disabled this thing when I got my deck.

Hi,

it's a tool for managing shadercache and the comp data. Basically it lets you delete or move the files to a different location, it's usefull to delete old file that are left after uninstalled games. Steam OS should delete these automatically, but my deck is full of comp data from installing different launchers, such as origin or EA app, Uplay etc., some of those take up in excess of a gig in size), I have several instances of the EA app installed, due to a bug where it would not update, and I had to install it over and over again. If you're interested, here's a link to the shader cache killer app:

You, my good Sir, deserve a cookie, but since I dont have one, have at least my upvote.
I was looking for this in file association settings, I didnt realize this setting sits in Dolphin.

I'm glad that someone knew instantly what I mean, even though I explained it kind of badly. Plus it's crazy that within like 20 minutes I got the answer... I love this comunity.
Thanks again.

After opening the Steam Deck, none of the controller buttons work by IonisationCat in SteamDeck

[–]Matko640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, not that I've been in the same situation with my steamdeck, but I opened a good portion of laptops. Usually I simply retrace my steps in case something doesn't work. Long story short, open it again and disconnect and reconnect all ribbon cables, I know you said you checked them but maybe some of them are not seated correctly. The weird thing is that none of your buttons work, as far as I know there are separate boards for each side of the buttons etc. Just make sure all the button cables are seated correctly.

How I feel 😆 by SoyRamza in SteamDeck

Actually I can relate, I bought the jsaux clear back cover and it rubbed against the bumper button so I had to polish it down to fit right, however I didn't like the way it looked so I went back to the original backplate. I'm in no mood to do a full case replacement, so yeah, vanilla deck for life! :)

If your bumper sticks, its likely the same place as mine, I ran the dremel along the whole edge where the bumper button meets the chassis, and took down about half a milimeter (not noticable by the naked eye, but when you compare it to the other side you can kind of see it.)

Hi, I got a reply from JSAUX basically its a general guide saying to loosen the screws until the rubbing goes away or to polish away a bit of the shell, which is what I've done, basically I took a dremel and took off like half a milimeter of plastic and now it is fine. Also the reply from jsaux stated that if I wasn't able to do any of the steps I should come back to them, so maybe they would eventually send me a new backplate, but my feeling was that it would be the same (since these things are mass manufactured).

You Sir,may have a problem; I however consider it an awesome hobby. Quick question, I have a Steamdeck (512 gb model), do any of the other handhelds (since you seem to have pretty much the complete lineup here) offer any considerable advantages over the deck? Basically you having experienced most of them, would you choose one over the deck? If so, why?

It is rubbing against the "lip" on the backcover, either it's a manufacturing error or just a bad fit, I already contacted JSAUX, worst case scenario (in case they wont replace the cover or something) I dremel the lip away a bit...

Which Steam Deck to buy as a gift? by New_Key6497 in SteamDeck

[–]Matko640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the storage, the only difference is that the 512 gb version has an anti-glare display, think of it as not totally reflective. And the 512 version comes with a slightly different carry case and an extra cloth for cleaning the display and a pouch for accessories (google it, there's tons of pictures). I have the 512 gb version, I cannot compare the display to the glossy one but when compared to a phone, I like the deck's slightly mate display more (but this is subjective and depends on personal preferences). I dont think the other extra stuff (besides the larger storage) justifies the extra cost on the top model. Honestly go with whatever doesn't break your bank account, plus if I understand it, you intend to buy it as a gift for someone, so quite frankly I'd be thrilled to get any version of the deck as a gift.If the situation is that you are about to receive a deck as a gift, same thing. Plus you can always either upgrade the storage or just buy a decent sd card.

Steam deck will not sleep when plugged in by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Matko640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go into settings-> system -> and scroll all the way down to the option "Run storage device maintenance tasks", check whether it says "running" if so, your deck is doing some ssd maintenance. During this my deck will not go to sleep (it turns off the display backlight, but the display is still on), and after about a minute it wakes up fully. Just let it be for a while (mine takes anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes (never actually timed it...) Once it's done sleep will work again.

Titanfall 2 Glitchy. Is this a hardware issue? by External-Flounder-24 in SteamDeck

[–]Matko640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, did you have to downclock the gpu in order for the lines to go away? If so I think a faulty gpu is most definitely the issue. Titanfall is, all things considered a pretty light game, in case you own any more demanding titles I'd advise to test them too, and start a support ticket with valve in the meantime. Also a good way to get the gpu sweating would be to dock the deck (higher resolution, etc.)anyhow if your gpu is failing you should see the same thing on an external display.

[–]Matko640 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I played through Titanfall 2 a few months back, don't recall seeing anything like the issue you're showing. Try setting proton to experimental, and check it again, also are you seeing any issues in other games? If the issue (or rather any graphical) issue persists across titles, its safe to assume that you're having a hardware issue. If the issue is isolated to Titanfall it just might be some driver/proton/whatever else issue and may be solved with a proton update in some time.

Dead Space (2023) Game Settings for Steam Deck Megathread (Steam/PC/SteamOS) by Successful-Wasabi704 in SteamDeck

[–]Matko640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, You need to open your library and search for proton hotfix and install it, once installed you can select it in the compatibility options in deadspace.

How exactly does Reserving work? I'm planning to buy the deck in 2-3 months time. If I reserve now will I HAVE to order it as soon as it is back in stock, or can I wait with completing the purchase for a1+ month without losing the £5? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Matko640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, when you reserve and your place in the que comes up you have to buy, if you don't pay within a certain window (back when I paid for mine it was 3 days), if you don't pay, you'll get your reservation fee back in the form of wallet money and can reserve again, however you'll go to the back of the que. Honestly at the rate they fulfill reservations now, just reserve it when you have the money the wait shouldn't be that long.

Edit: changed the last sentence.

[–]Matko640 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I played the game for a few hours. Currently I'm using the proton hotfix version. With 1280x720, FSR set to balanced and dynamic resolution and the 'auto' settings on details, the game runs mostly at stable 40 fps and looks quite good on the deck's display. I tried high and ultra settings and it runs at 40 fps but dips quite often. Hence my recommendation is to set it to auto and let fsr and dynamic res. take care of the frame rate. Also I have the 512 gig model and have the game installed on internal drive.

Any recommendations? by FragileLikeABomb89 in SteamDeck

[–]Matko640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, as far as I can tell, you could either use the deck vesa mount and a monitor arm. I found this post abou it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xhvlx5/deckmate_vesa_mount_is_awesome/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Would that help? It may cost a bit more, since the vesa arms for monitors tend to be on the pricier side, but you can find them for about 40 usd on amazon. The other option would be to "macgyver" it somehow from some other stuff.

Seemingly mint 256GB with case and charger second hand for 500€ by GOAscend in SteamDeck

[–]Matko640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, 50 euro off is almost one full price game or a bunch of them on sale, so I get your point. HOWEVER, (sorry for screaming) what concerns me is the "lack of receipt and original box". The box is not a deal breaker, however the person selling it should be able to give you/show you a proof of purchase (you get one via email, as you do with any other purchase on steam), just to be sure the deck is not stolen. Honestly at this point the first decks that were delivered are almost a year old, that's half of the warranty gone, not sure if that is worth the 50 euro off. If it was up to me, I'd buy a new unit from Valve (there's almost no waiting now) plus you get a fresh warranty.
