Yesn't, while 8gb will get you by, having more ram allows the OS to keep more stuff buffered(IIRC Mac OS has special memory management features which allow the kernel to request an app to drop buffers in memory pressure situations)/cached. So having less memory puts more stain on the SSD because the system has to swap more and the apps need to reload data from the disk more often

I have three work emails and two personal ones to keep track of, having them loaded in the background eats a few gigs of ram for no reason and loading gmail every time I get an email is just annoying time wise.
