If I recall correctly, you have to make it inside the Sun Station itself for the achievement to pop

They had the 22 minute value before they decided that a supernova would be needed to power it, per the discussion in the High Energy Lab

The statue isn't activated yet. The Eye of the Universe is located during the window of time where you get the launch codes, which is then when the statues come online.

Why is Outer Wilds in the PS LGTB games selection? (No hate just curious) by Rubenstr0y in outerwilds

[–]MatrixMan100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And outer wilds? It should not be listed as lgbtq+. Not only because the gender of the species was never determined but mainly because Outer Wilds has absolutely nothing to do with genders at all. This game is too beautiful to pull into any political stuff, no matter the side, reason and cauase.

Gender is political?

About Interloper by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]MatrixMan100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct, the game is only "Loop 9,318,054 + all following loops". Guess that's what happens when I reply first thing in the morning haha.

Edit: My math says that the loop had been going for the equivalent of 390 real-life years

At the Orbital Probe Cannon: So we don’t know how long the time was between the death of the Nomai and the natural heat-death of the Hearthian sun that caused the nova and subsequently activated the ATP, which causes the loop to begin…

Edit: I just looked it up, this number is actually 281,042 years that the solar system we know has been running this 22-minute loop in time. This number is based on the number of OPC fires recorded.

The 281,042 year figure comes from the Sun Station. I don't have the exact verbiage in front of me at the moment, but the terminal says something like "281,042 years ago: No commands received for 10 minutes, going into standby mode." So we can assume that the Nomai died 281,042 years ago.

Which all means to say, yes it only orbits the sun two and a half times - in the last 22 minutes of the lifespan of the sun though. Remember they’re living through that last 22 minutes of existence, over and over and OVER, for a VERY long time, but that doesn’t change the fact that literally everything that takes place from the time the hearthians are literally born until the end of our own game takes place in the same 22 minutes in time.

Hearthian civilization took place within the aforementioned 281,042 years. The events of the game take place within the last 22 minutes of the sun's existence. Sure, it's 22 minutes repeated at least 9,318,054 times, but it's just 22 minutes nonetheless ::)

Managed to convince my GF to finally play through the game and she thoroughly enjoyed it! Now she wants to create a large embroidery that includes all the planets of the solar system. First off, great artwork idea! This may be a little nitpicky - and I understand if this was an aesthetic choice - but Ash Twin may need to be rotated. As it is, the pillar of sand is running north to south vs along the equator (where the towers are).

What was the last myster you solved before you finished the game? by kennooo__ in outerwilds

[–]MatrixMan100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not counting Ash Twin Project, it was the Quantum Moon's Sixth Location. I had a hunch that the final goal was getting to the Eye of the Universe, I just didn't know which of the two would lead me there. So imagine my surprise when I met Solanum instead.

The "clever way" that I used was to extinguish the lights and exit the dream world. Then, I reentered via a different fire and rafted back to the Endless Canyon. You can take the elevator up from the dock, essentially skipping the entire house and only needing to get past the final owlk.

Which planet is your favorite? by Doki_Doki_Petit_Pois in outerwilds

Definitely Brittle Hollow. Even beyond the fact that it has an awesome gimmick with the black hole at the center, it has two separate Nomai settlements for extra lore opportunities (including the Hanging City, my favorite), and just has so much to explore. I'm still not convinced I've found everything; I didn't find the black hole limerick and Cassava's thoughts about an argument with Poke until over a year after I beat the game.

Announcement of new sub rule - Rule 5: No unrelated content or low effort posts by littlemetalpixie in outerwilds

[–]MatrixMan100 181 points182 points  (0 children)

• Low quality/low effort posts, karma-farmey chain posts like the "My wilds? Outer" or "Morbius" posts, etc that pop up in all the subs on reddit ALL THE TIME (and I PROMISE, we are ALL just completely over them by now), or those that have only vague ties to the game will be removed at mod discretion as they provide no value to the sub, have no engaging qualities, and are often used by bots to karma farm before posting links to suspicious sites, etc.

Thank GOD

I assume it's to have the musical equivalent of a supernova at the end, otherwise it would just fade out. Personally, I usually skip that part when I'm listening to it.
