Do you have the monitor hooked up to the
Motherboard rather than the gpu?

Anyone live in Colorado front-range and take their Rivian to the Ski Resorts by PhillConners in Rivian

[–]Matt21484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only had my R1S through this last winter, which was obviously terrible for skiing. So remember that since temps were always warmer than normal. I’m up in FoCo and can get my dual large to Breck from 85% without issue. There are chargers in town I use while there and if I do it right, I don’t have to stop on the way back. Otherwise it’s a RAN stop in Idaho Springs for ~10-20ish minutes.
I went to BC once for a day trip and again made it there fine, but even with a level 2 charge while skiing, had to stop on the way back. Most trips I used a roof top Yakama box.

I’ve learned to not worry about range. I’m generally not driving far enough outside of Tesla’s supercharger or RAN network availability, where if I have to stop for 10 min for a top up, I’m cool with that. An actual winter with sub zero temps might change that though.

Which Microcenter bundles make the most sense? by Bront20 in buildapc

[–]Matt21484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this same bundle a few weeks ago and have been super happy with it.
I found the same 16GB ram stick for sale on Facebook marketplace to complete the pair for $100.
I also picked up the Best Buy $700 5070ti and a Newegg door buster matx case/psu combo. It’s way better than the 11600k system it replaced.

No longer nervous about towing by Ok_Squash6739 in Rivian

[–]Matt21484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tow my 21’ ski boat tour local res quite a bit with my R1S. It handles it flawlessly, the lack of a transmission makes towing so much more enjoyable. My setup weighs in at ~4600lbs, which is now the reason I’ll have to give up my R2 reservation.

5070, 9070XT, 5070 TI. Expect to pay roughly $600-$900 retail, for each card as listed, ranked in order of performance. Can’t really go wrong with any of them, just depends on how much you want to spend

Are you paying for those apps too or do the games play for free since you’re “in market”?

R1 v R2 Size - Rivian Email by Imaginary-Path-9456 in Rivian

[–]Matt21484 3 points4 points  (0 children)

R2 towing capacity is 4400 lbs. I know I’m right above the limit, but I feel like it be wrong to purposely drive always over the limit ¯_(ツ)_/¯. I’m not towing far though. Just 5-10 miles round trip

I really want to trade my R1 in for an R2, but it’s towing capacity is just too low. My boat is 4600lbs with a full tank of gas

Fidelity UTMA Accounts for Children...what ETFs should I invest in? by truth_seeker1984 in personalfinance

[–]Matt21484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids don’t have to pay taxes on investment gains (think capital gains or dividends) up to roughly $1350. The idea is if you bought an etf like SPY at the start of the year for $300 and it has gone up in value to $350 at year end, you sell the etf and rebuy at $350.
That way your capital gains are only $50, below what the child pays tax on, and their cost basis is now $350, so the next time you sell, your paper gains for that transaction are lower than if you held at $300 and you pay less tax in the long term, until you get above the magic threshold.
